Dents in newly painted window frames

'Oh how I laughed bejaysus and holy farder' said Gerald as he spent a week (or maybe two) each year rubbing his wood vigorously (actually is that a picture of him gripping his wood in his left hand?).

Dents in newly painted window frames

Car bodywork filler is fantastic stuff for filling timber windows. Sands down to a lovely smooth finish. Beats wood filler or putty anyday. I've upgraded to uPVC these days but on previous houses I've had great results with car filler on my windows, timber conservatory and French doors.

    Avanti 8 bacup battery replacement

It's basically the same as a 12v car battery but a lot smaller. Yes it's rechargeable.

    Avanti 8 bacup battery replacement

I would definitely measure the dimensions of your existing battery and note the locations of the terminals on the battery before ordering a new one. I also took a photo of my old battery in-situ on my phone then used this for reference when looking for one on Ebay. Search 'burglar alarm back up...

    Avanti 8 bacup battery replacement

I've just had a look at it. Yuasa. Good Japanese make. I used to use Yuasa batteries in my motorbiking days in the 80's. Mine is 12 volt 2.1 Ah also. Going for £11.80 with free delivery on Ebay at the moment. Different sizes on offer.

    Avanti 8 bacup battery replacement

I got a new back up battery for my wired house system from Ebay a couple of years ago. Brand new free delivery for less than a tenner. Surprisingly easy to fit. There were a couple of videos on You Tube. I couldn't source the exact same manufacturer but got hold of a battery of same dimensions...

The benefits of having a boy...........

My mother was a clerk in the printing trade for 40 years. The printing apprentices used to dread the day they became qualified men as the old lags used to strip them and paint printing ink over their privates. It was called being 'blackballed' and was something of a tradition. The ink wouldn't...

The benefits of having a boy...........

Coincidentally on the subject of kids being sent to war I was reading about Eisenhower's decision to use raw recruits straight from basic training for the American landings at Omaha beach on D-Day. He insisted that no battle veterans be used, only young lads with no fighting experience. He knew...

The benefits of having a boy...........

Quite agree with DIY and Owain. Kids aren't interested in the prospect of standing on a scaffold on a frosty morning laying bricks. They want to be musicians, website millionaires and other such pipe dream stuff. Just to finish the story in my previous post: The other apprentice (the one who...

The benefits of having a boy...........

As an apprentice surveyor in the coal industry many years ago I had my share of ribbing. My owd grandad had given me some invaluable advice..."never refuse to do something you're asked to do....just don't do it well....and don't react in any way". Whenever I was told to make tea I'd use...

What to do when your customer doesn't like you?

It's like a re-run of The Comedians early 70's vintage...."A bloke walked into a pub...." Images of a man in a frilly collar and tuxedo sucking on a Woodbine at a microphone...

    Exterior door repair

Burn the rotten wood out with a blow torch. Scrape out the toasted wood. Use car filler (the cheap stuff from a back street car spares shop will do....no need to buy Isopon P38 as it's dear) to build up the void. Car filler works better at joinery repairs in my opinion than wood filler as you...

    Panel Full, Now What?

Talking of third world electrics I witnessed an electrician in Brazil hold a lightbulb in his mouth that had two wires soldered to it and use it a circuit tester.

Car scouting again - C4s any good?

I don't give a flying phuq whether Mobil oil has been christened by Balinese virgins or not or whether QE II farts it into her porridge in a morning it says on the back of the tub that it is suitable for the whole range of Ford engines. That includes the Ford 1.6 tdci which is actually a Pug 1.6...
