New Cistern on Close Coupled Toilet Leaking - Bolts?

No... and I can see that makes it harder. The bolts go through the cistern with the cone washer inside and then straight through the pan with the ruber washer and plastic nut underneath. So there is no direct clamped sandwich of seals on either side of the cistern.

New Cistern on Close Coupled Toilet Leaking - Bolts?

I fitted a new Bathstore "Mytime" close coupled toilet in the cloakroom yesterday. Despite doing it all by the book twice it still leaks from the cistern... about an eggcup full an hour. It leaks when tested with water poured into the cistern before the supply is connected. It does not...

Earth/Bonding. Gas boiler & toilet supply?

Thanks for that. Yes all installed and whole house tested per the current regs with certificates/part P issued. Its a new RCD MCB consumer unit. I'm doing some plasterboard stud walling in the room so probably will leave hime some conduit in the wall to save mucking it up if he decided to...

Earth/Bonding. Gas boiler & toilet supply?

Just had an electrician do loads of work to bring our bathroom up to date & fit new consumer unit with trips. Now having a new gas wall mount boiler to replace the old one and it will be moved from a utility room to an adj toilet compartment with no washbasin... just a WC. Currently the...

    Decent quality immersion heater timer.

Thanks for the makers link. Sorted out the Horstman Electrisave E15/30 will suit us best and our local Screwfix stock it at £26 so I'll nip off there.

    Decent quality immersion heater timer.

Ahh I remember I've seen that name on C/H clocks. I guess somewhere like Plumb Centre or an electricians supplier might be better than the DIY sheds??

    Decent quality immersion heater timer.

I need to fit a timer to our immersion heater. Bought one from B&Q at the weekend but it was so poorly made I don't want it in the most flammable part of the house (airing cupboard with timber shelves and dry clothes) and will return it. Is there a "proper" quality brand in these things...

    Immersion heater/thermostat swap? Length critical?

That's great thanks... I'll nip out to B&Q and it will get us out of a hole. Apreciate you replying.

    Immersion heater/thermostat swap? Length critical?

Yep its in the top of a 36" standard open vented cylinder with the green foam covering. I absolutely have to sort this today hence limited to DIY type stores. I see B&Q do a replacement stat for 27" immersions with the code number TSTAT18 so I wonder if this is an 18"?

    Immersion heater/thermostat swap? Length critical?

My immersion heater thermostat has failed. The heater itself tests out OK at about 20 ohms so hopefully no drain down down reqd to replace that. I dont know the length of my immersion heater but the thermostat measures 18" and the hole it goes in is 19" deep. Looking online I can't see...

    WC pan P-connector with boss.

Many thanks... that looks interesting. It seems to have an arrangement where the boss outlet is protected from soil. It might be possible to put this section into the clay pipe in the floor and then fit the standard P connection to the McAlpine boss.

    TOILET WASTE

I wonder why you can't make the dimensions... have you chosen a toilet with a pan spigot that comes too far back? I wonder how old your house is? Our 1930s (I think) clay drains are very brittle and damaging ours outside where the toilet is located, within a couple of feet from the boundary...

How many BTU would old cast boiler have given to room.

Ahh yes... just looked and a basic small one in chrome is only 600-700 BTU so that will do and match the neat new toilet. Thanks for the idea.

How many BTU would old cast boiler have given to room.

Yep I'd done the calcs for the room but as we've modernised this house we've changed many of the rads for different reasons (style, position, size) and been able to consider our experience of living here for 16yrs knowing how each room feels as well as what the calcs say. Its a solid brick wall...

    TOILET WASTE

I'd read that link when I was first trying to sort this out and the info is good apart from the point it doesn't mention the different pan spigot positions of different toilets. If you buy a toilet without checking this even a swan neck or flexy waste outlet may still leave the toilet away from...

    TOILET WASTE

I'd been hunting round for a while with same issue. 1950s building with centre of waste pipe in concrete floor 240mm from wall. Many toilets were going to be pushed too far away from the wall. I looked round at all the toilets I could see in the flesh and measured the distance between the pan...

    WC pan P-connector with boss.

Ahhh understood... mind you I've had a few mates who could threaten a top connection!

    WC pan P-connector with boss.

Has anyone ever seen a WC pan P-connector with a boss (for boiler drain conn) anywhere else other than on the top of the P. Very few toilet pans seem to have room to get fittings onto a top boss easily. One on the rear would help me but can't find one anywhere online.

How many BTU would old cast boiler have given to room.

Going to have a new boiler fitted soon by a RGI as part of a utility room & cloakroom revamp. After he's finished a wall will be moved and a toilet compartment created which will include the new boiler. First to work out the new rad I'll put in the utility room at a later date I wondered...

Reliable basic standard gas boiler for 17yr old system

Due to new regulations you would be unable to hang the fixing plate/bracket yourself let alone the boiler. You may be able to find someone to commision it for you after doing this but its now a no no i beleive. Since posting this query I have realised it's all changed. I actually put 95% of...
