Cast Iron Guttering- replace or paint?

I would definately replace with new cast iron type. brett Martin WAS loads better than Floplast years ago, but I chose to do mine in Floplast as they have improved it massively lately and they also do soil pipe no.

    LOOSE DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOW FRAME

Hi, the bottom of a UPVC window is never fixed, the sides should be and very occasionally the top, but never the bottom. However it should still be sealed and shouldn't really move...unless you are pushing really really hard! I would advise re-sealing all round the window with a good...

    Dog pee

If the dog is male he will just kill anything, turf and otherwise that you put in the area. I spent months training my rotty to pee in one area of the garden, months and months - but once he got it we just put gravel on that section. Not much else you can do really, but at least they arent...

    gravel on a slope

I have seen a honeycomb covering before, not sure where you get it from but it was on a steep drive and seemed to hold the gravel ok. It was a rubber I think and the honeycombes were about 80mm across.

    composite decking

Try these, £10.80 +Vat for a 2.4M length seems a bit more reasonable http://www.gbplastics.co.uk/Products/Decking_Honey_Oak_Composite_Garden_Wood_Teak I got mine from there last year - very pleased with it

How to clad summer summer house/study

there is a product on the market that looks like wood but is PVC, bit hard to describe but it is a bit like rough softwood that has been finished with gloss. Not sure if it is within budget, but I saw it at a show last year on a summerhouse and it looked really good. This stuff looks the...

How hard to replace the ceiling? Any other suggestions?

As this is a bathroom and you already have a T&G ceiling up there have you thought about PVC paneling on the ceiling? Will be quicker and cleaner than plasterboard and skimming, but might cost a bit more. You can still cut your new holes for your downlighters in the correct place and box...

Missing Soffit & Fascias - Is this normal??

Get the developer to put a good coat on and then every 5 years will be fine. The underside of your soffits get very little weather and so as long as the first coat is good it will last for ages.

    Professional Double Glazing Installation

PVC Windows should not be bigger than the gap they are intended to fill. UPVC will expand a little and therefore there should be some tolerance and the brickwork is never square either The salesman is telling you a load of nonsense, if the company has a good reputation then ring and ask to...

    My shed roof is leaking

not sure how long it has been leaking but check the wooden roof boards are not shot before replacing the felt. The are usually plywood and may have soaked up a bit of water before it started to leak. No point replacing the felt if the boards are dodgy underneath. You would have to change...

    slippy decking

Sorry moderator, qplumb2010, you can buy composite decking from most DIY companies and PVC stockist, some online. I still think it is a really good option when you have kids.

    Fixing a door frame

It really does depend on how much they are out But if you can get a good fixing, and you pack well, option b is by far the easiest. Fill the gaps with expanding foam, cut it back when dry and then put a nice peice of trim over the edge of the frame and the foam -SWMBO will think it looks lovely.

    Cracked double glazed window

Hi guarantees are not always transferable, and generally UPVC windows are covered for 10 years but the glass is only covered for 5, so you might not have been covered anyway. Don't think the insurance will cough up on this one, but it shouldn't be more than £100 for supply only It is a decent...

    Blocking holes in walls

I agree, expanding foam is the best option, you can get from most DIY shops. If you are using where there is a cavity, try and put something (like card) in first, otherwise the foam will just keep filling the cavity and not the hole. Wait for it to dry and then trim off excess with a sharp...

    Corrugated iron roof

Sounds the same as mine!! Was goign to suggest a polycarbonate roof, as the twinwall type would reduce if not stop condensation totally, but it would mean a total re-roof, not sure if you are up to that?
