    Moral Dilemma.. Illegal substances.

I worked on council refurbs some years ago, and one of the houses like your neighbour smoked and had a very large no. of visitors. They weren't dealing drugs but were excellent shoplifters!!!! The council must have been aware of the drugs cos the house reeked, and they visited pretty much daily...

    Plug tester reading

Are u sure the skts aren't working? wouldn't be the first time I've found the incoming supply wrong!!! try plugging in a radio or something else which only requires L & N.

    IR Test

I use a fluke (T)? 600 which goes to 1kohm on the continuity, so if that is OL I can safely assume nothing connected. Remote doorbells are just as much of a problem!

    ADDITIONAL SOCKETS ON RING MAIN

I dont think the regs state specifically that you can't have two spurs off one socket, only that you can't have more spurs than skts on a ring, BUT the BS for skt terminals states they should accept up to 3 x 2.5. So I'm sure someone will shoot me down but you can install two spurs off a skt but...

    Overloaded my sockets?

Thanks for that advice pensdown so where can I get a 7a fuse then???

    cooker 13amp

According to the regs it acceptable to take a fused spur from a 32a ring in 1.5mm!

    assessment and testing.

q1 test the rcd at the most convenient skt for resetting the rcd q2 don't understand how you are doing r1 +r2. you need to either add the continuity readings for phase and cpc then divide by 4 or cross connect the p & e and measure at each outlet, a slightly higher reading being a spur. you...

    cooker 13amp

I presume you mean a cooker connection point! you may add to this point a 2.5 t&e to connect a single skt for your oven, or even a double skt should you have a gas hob requiring an ign supply. Many wire single ovens straight into the cooker connection but via a skt or fused spur (recommended)is...

    Tripping RCD by neighbour's mower

most trades around here price anything by the half day ie whatever is going to be £75 + parts and vat. I would think £130 not unreasonable!

    2.8 kw ovens

You can't have tried very hard I would guess 85% single ovens will only require a 13a supply. you will not however find a double oven that doesn't req at least 20a supply and mostly 32a.

Three Bedroom Three Floor Town House.

socket terminals are designed 2x4mm max but if you consult the osg and circuit lengths it is unlikely above 2.5 required.

    main fuse

I've never seen a rewirable main fuse how old is it ??? sounds like a museum piece!!!! had an edf guy showing me his private collection of fuses recently( I know sad but everyone should have a hobby!), but his oldest (1934) was a cartridge type fuse! !!

    consumer unit change.

You effectively need to do a pir and correct any deviations before energising the new board! It's gotten real scary now. The entire property has to be up to standard in every way or don't touch it (advice to me from niceic inspector).

    Maximum demand

If you're looking at filling in the forms. I usually put , <(main fuse rating) (if i know it) or <100a if i don't. Not really possible to work out max on a domestic. Another possibility is to turn everything on and using a clampmeter measure the load on the incoming tails!!!!!

    Part P

If it is an attached garage it is not part p notifiable anyway, (docp april2006) If you just intend to add a switched fused spur to an existing circuit in a garage detached or not it is not notifiable and the installation of an rcd is not req (although preferable) But yes earthing arrangements...

    Domestic Installer PIR?

Well it seems that we are in the same quagmire here as part P in that a Co. employing xx sparks can use an inexperienced "competent" person to do the pir and sign it off as their own, NIC or not! it's a complete and utter F'''ing mess!

    Domestic Installer PIR?

Anyone who considers themselves competent enough can do a pir. Only nic APPROVED contractors can use the nic logo, excludes nic domestic installers unles fully APPROVED! Hope that's clear! :)

    Drilling Through Joists

Agree never drill through loft joists, They are only designed to take the weight of the ceiling, never designed to be boarded over and several tons of books, out-of-fashion clothes dumped on them! All the F**8**g rules and regs about this and that and they can't even get the basics right...
