    wiring range cooker .

Sorry but you need 6mm (at least depending on length, routing insulation etc) Would recommend 10mm anyway) and 32a breaker. This cooker just comes within a 32 amp breaker WITHOUT a socket on the cooker control panel

    consumer unit change

hi steve from what you've said you' already got a 30ma rcd so another is totally unecessary, Wylex with mcbs totally ok.(but is there any earth sleeving anywhere?) does sound like you need to upgrade earth bonding to gas and water though, ought to be 10mm.

    Shower requirements

6.5mm overall diameter??? if thats the size of your incoming maind I would think they are 10mm ay best, You definitely need to get the main supply upgraded before any kind of electric shower and probably before you do any serious cooking none of your supply ..tails...meter... cu are really up to...

Clearance Between Electric and gas Supplies

I was told last week that electric cables couldn't be within 25 mm of a gas pipe. I think it is because gas fitters are so stupid they don't look before turning on the soldering torch

    immersion heater trips mcb

I understand the trick is to get 'movement' on removing the old heater BEFORE draining the tank. The weight of the water helps to prevent just twisting the tank up!!!

A question about CU Earth (and others random wonderings...)

Earth leakage voltage breaker, the predecessor to the rcd Looks pretty much the same. Do you have a box inbetween the incoming main fuse and the fuseboard with a PRESS TO TEST button on it? that will be either a elcb or rcd, If you think it could be over 20yrs old it will almost certainly be an...

A question about CU Earth (and others random wonderings...)

You should very definetly have an earth stake and rcd at the source of the installation. By the sounds of it an old installation so you may have an elvb installed which looks like an rcd but isn't. There is no reason why upstairs and downstairs skts should be on seperate circuits The...

How far between back to back backboxes

I haven't seen any rules on this one but I would try to offset them by at least the thickness of the wall but no more than 150mm to ensure that everything was within zone, but maybe I'm just being overly cautious!

    installin hob

covering of backsides! probably would be fine but everyone has to cover their backside bigtime nowadays! I think that the long term effect of having the hob over a fridge/wm would be discolouration of the top at worst.

    Odd RCD behaviour

I had a similar setup a while back, the rcd was fine until something was plugged in to the ring The n-e fault was on the lighting circuit in the end, although that had not caused any tripping problem. hope it helps!

    Earth rod to reduce Zs?

Sounds like you have a problem but the iee is now the iet. But remember that apparently the nic write the rules now!!!. I would think that if tt-ing it gets the readings down it ought to be acceptable, but who am I???

    Earth rod to reduce Zs?

post this on the iet website, you're more likely to get an educated answer there. Without knowing more details I would suggest running a 2.5 earth cable from the end if a radial or mid point if a ring back to the met.
