tiling around two velux windows look messy, is it done correctly?

What's the roof pitch for starts? Velux windows go down to 15 degrees done right. Are tiles suitable for the pitch and have the right headlap if so? Some brands do tile and halves not sure with this tile however this would have eliminated the small cuts are the Velux. The kick up around the...

bonding ply to foil insulated board - which adhesive?

Sounds naff. I've got 2 young kids and before they came along the house was perfect. Now there's chips, dents, finger marks everywhere we all go through it. Suck it up for now and once they're older do it again properly then.

Stepped cracks in mortar above windows

Is there a side extension? The second picture doesn't appear to have an external lintel going off where the soldier course finishes however the last picture without soldiers works in correctly for there to be a lintel this looks newer though thus thinking it's an extension.

Been there done it. The heart ache when it goes wrong isn't worth it. Get yourself a quality cutting in brush and ditch the frog tape.

    Dulux Gloss Paint Yellowing

I had the same problem with Crown oil based gloss. Within 2 years it'd turned a off white / yellow. I didn't have the heart to do the lot again so as and when rooms need a freshen up or redecoration I've been redoing it with water based gloss. Give the old gloss a good rub down with 240 or...

    Blocking up fireplace

I'd board onto the blocks and skim the board. Thermalite would suck the life out of your skim. You've covered the vent but also consider fitting a chimney cowl.

Roof for new extension - 15deg pitch - Recommendations

I used Sandtoft 20/20 and Velux windows at 16 degrees and had no leaks in over 2 years in all sorts of weather. The added extras Velux sell sometimes get overlooked in installations but at such a low pitch are critical to a leak free roof. The insulation collar and more so under felt collar and...

    Top wall plate size

While woody can be a smart alec sometimes what he's saying is correct there is no strict depth for a wall plate. The bare minimum would be 4x1 if that's what your after.

Valiant eco tech condensate flexi pipe leak

Which if you plumbers are as godly as you think you are should never happen. Only an idiot would trap the trap. No fumes would escape if the trap were still in place. I changed my condensate from external to internal be just adjusting the solvent weld pipe I never once touched the trap or any...

Valiant eco tech condensate flexi pipe leak

Technically you're not allowed to mess with the condensate pipe unless gas safe as it's apart of the flue. However if it's just replacing a broken section of condensate pipe it's probably one of the more DIY friendly jobs you could undertake. If your confident save yourself £250 and crack on...

    Cracks in Lounge ceiling.

A structural engineer for hairline cracks along plasterboard joins? Don't waste your money. The method that's been used to support the joists sounds correct. It can't be anything serious it's been standing for 18 years! It's probably over the years the nails or screws holding the boards have...

    Extension boundary wall.

No reason why the block work can't look neat even building overhand. Maybe consider painting the boundary side in a similar colour to the render? It'd have to be painted in stages as the blocks go up and have dried but it'd look better on the eye.
