sorry breezer what i meant was is he right to say we can you normal cable as i thought it had to be a heat resistant cable so it wouldnt melt as quickly if there was a fire and therefore give a longer alarm and no joe-90 it is not acceptable to me sorry for the confusion

had a electrition around today to give me a price to fit some mains smoke alarms and a heat sensor in the kitchen , he wanted to wire them from the lights but said that he would now have to run a seperate cable from the fusebox as some of the lights he couldnt find a loop live only a switched...

not sure had the electrition in to sort everything out so hopefully its now all ok but will find out

had the gas fitter back out today the unswitched fcu had to be fitted onto timer controls . its now been fitted so hopefully this is now the end of that saga

no you have got to leave the bathroom and the cupboard is on the landing

from what i understand it is on its own circuit will have to find out

no the switch is in the cupboard with the hot water tank

i rent the house out to students and had a gas fitter out to service the back boiler and do any other checks for the cert needed and he said we needed to have the switch changed

not sure if in the right place as it is both plumbing and electric i've been told that my immersion heater needs to be wired into a unswitched fcu and not into the switch it is in at the moment cant post a picture as camera is not working

ive got a problem with a pull cord light switch you have to pull it three times before the 2 lights come on ive checked the lights and they both work ok any sugestions

hope somebody can help im painting a friends kitchen for them and to do a tidy job for them decided to unscrew the sockets so not to get any paint on them and noticed that somebody has extended the cable using terminal blocks and i thought they should be crimped any help gladly excepted

there wasnt a ceiling rose just a light fitted to the ceiling when i took the light down it was just the 2 core flex coming out of the ceiling as for how long it has been done im not sure he has only had the house about 18 months and it was already done

can we change the light fitting for a different one without a earth connection in the flex

its a screw fitting i have taken down but there is no earth in the cable coming from the ceiling

ive been asked to help change some lights in my nephews attic conversion as he got a shock when he changed the blown bulb when i took the light down i noticed it is wired with flex with no earth will it all have to be taken out or can you get a fitting that doesnt need to be earthed
