Advice RE Cabling / Setup for Wedding Marquee

You never know, you might get lucky! At least I hope you will after the wedding day!

    wiring a floodlight

OMG, this is not the right fitting for the job, nor do I feel confident that all will go to plan. How high above your workstation? What wattage? Can you give us the problem you have and we will give you a suitable solution rather than the lash up path that B&Q have sent you down? I can just...

Advice RE Cabling / Setup for Wedding Marquee

The real bad news? This is all notifiable so this is either gonna be an electrician, or ready for next august if you wait for LABC to authorise the work! Ring a sparks, tell him what you want, and see what he says £ wise. Despite what it sounds like, this aint a massive job, assuming you can...

Advice RE Cabling / Setup for Wedding Marquee

Adam's official solution of a 16A "commando" with rcd protection straight off the consumer unit is the most sensible in my mind. The plug will take anything you want cable wise and will come in real handy if you ever get a caravan! One run to the first tent with the DJ, then from there to the...

Adding another switch to the existing one

Not sure what you mean "250w Connection" What sort of lamps are the 60w ones? Im guessing just normal GLS "lightbulbs", it really ought not be running that hot unless something is wrong!

    Wiring in a partition wall

I find these safe zones rather pointless if no householders are aware that they exist. How many people check what's in line with what before they drill for shelves etc?

Electorlux Ceramic Hob - 2 rings not working

Ironically getting someone in because they have the knowledge of how to do it so all rings work might have been more sensible!

Electorlux Ceramic Hob - 2 rings not working

If the live terminal is correctly wired, there is likely to be only one other terminal a horseshoe shaped link could reach! It sure as hell ain't likely to go from one outer terminal to the other! And earth needs to be sleeved for many reasons, including adherence to regs! Instead of...

    Basement surface wiring on brick

You meant Masterseal, but I'll forgive you, although I cant see IP56 being required! Many rooms in houses get damp but normal accessories suffice. I can't imagine this room would be of any use if water was running down the walls! I'd go with plastic conduit as suggested, glued at all joints...

Advice RE Cabling / Setup for Wedding Marquee

4.0mm arctic? Temporary armoured run? Generator has to be the last resort , we're not talking about a welding party in the marquee! It would cost more than getting a sparks in to wire up a temporary supply! I am really impressed that you have asked on here though to be honest. I can just see...

    20a junction box (ring main)

Don't be tight! 30A (technically should be larger still!!!!) must be about a quid in a shed surely!

    spur from smoke alarm????

There has to be, at the very least, a permanent live in the switch, is it not possble to fish down to a switch to get your supply???? Hand up who has a wire coathanger in their toolbox?

    Dimmer wiring Crisis or stupidnes

Just being facetious but I'm imagining a dimmer module hanging in mid air and a plate with a hole in it in the bin!

    wiring a floodlight

Did the B&Q guy's ideas not extend to "Not buying a PIR fitting"? Not often are they on commission, but this guy has blatantly got you to waste money, either through malice or incompetence! "Hello, I'd like a chair" "Well just buy this £1000 worth of sit on mower, but don't fill it with...

Adding another switch to the existing one

How hot is hot? It shouldn't get to what I would call "very very hot". Dimmers have a rating that tells you how many lights and which types of light can be controlled by it essentially. Use the wrong kind of dimmer for the lights you have or overload it with too many, and you might see more...

    Where to buy H05RN-F Cable

TQ is not the same! I work for a cable company and we only buy in 100m drums, at best we might cut into 50s but only if you want both! Its unlikely that you will get just 10m. Buy 50m and stick the other 40m on ebay?
