4 Gang Brass 400 watt dimmer Switch connected to 5amp socket

I didnt suggest replacing the whole lot, although technically you should! Merely that there is a "Spares" premium on the module by itself, has to be ordered in , carriage paid for, etc, whereas nicking the module off of a 1g dimmer would not carry such a premium as its probably in stock...

new consumer unit- distance from meter

I was merely suggesting that I thought a 5m limit was unlikely, 3m being the likely limit. So, practically speaking he shouldn't bother checking with the DNO because they should be ok with it? Make your mind up! They should ask for a switchfuse if the run is longer than thay permit, as...

    5a juction boxes, good idear?

I'm not predicting a problem, merely being technical! It just screams of a failure to arse cover yourself if you install items not rated (identical or not, they are 5a rated) higher than the overcurrent device protecting the circuit. You wouldn't install cable capable of only 31a on a circuit...

4 Gang Brass 400 watt dimmer Switch connected to 5amp socket

Where from? Probably cheaper to buy a one gang dimmer!! Might I add that if you modify these items yourself they will neither be guaranteed nor conform to regs. Just worth knowing. If this dimmer now bursts into flames, it's all on you buddy!

    5a juction boxes, good idear?

Not really accessible then. Not in the "can gain access to them without wrecking the place" sense of the word! And surely if a circuit can run to 6a before being overcurrent, then 5a JB's are not allowed.

    Double Insulated Downlights

You will notify LABC BEFORE you start, they may want to inspect at first fix and after completion. Its not a case of just getting them round after to see if it "looks alright". May cost you £100 too! Can't be much more than that for a scheme sparks to do it for you and test it! PS IP23 is...

    shallow depth dimmer switches

Some dimmers come with a spacer collar that allow you to stick them on a 23mm back box. Ask at your local friendly wholesalers to see if they can get you one (perhaps even out of the box of another dimmer they stock!). MK also do a trunking adaptor that does the same kind of thing I believe.

Chances are that the fan is off the lighting circuit too! Sounds to me though (no offence) you might not be the best person for this job.

    Outdoor Electrics

20 channels of dimming in your garden??!?!?!??!? Although to be fair, I think light is even more important in a garden than a house! I thought ours was well lit with 6 bulkheads in the pergola, batten in the greenhouse and one in the shed, bulkhead at the entrance to the greenhouse...

    Some Help Please

Direct contact - contact with exposed and intentionally live parts MCB won't trip. RCD will. Indirect contact - contact with component or extraneous metal parts live as a result of a fault. MCB will trip assuming earthing is satisfactory. 100mA not all that useful in either...

Loft socket - can I take a spur from THIS?

See You Next Tuesday! While its admirable that you consider yourself more qualified and professional than an actual professional, I hate to inform you that tidiness/hoovering does not equal safety! The reason he is asking is because he does not have the amazing knowledge that such expert...
