    inspection testing tips

Right this instant! That is actually really good advice. Nobody likes paying for a fail! Used to hate calling contractors to tell them that their meter in for calibration was dead but that will be £35 carriage please! Funny how that invoice always got disputed!

    Loft socket from immersion cct

Its the only real way to go from flush to surface, but I appreciate the gratitude!

To twist or not to twist?

Tinning/soldering strands is ok for audio/lv connections, but I would have thought that ferrules or pin crimps were better. Also, like you say, the connections that feature a clamping system, usually even found on MCBs or at least main switches/incomers, are far better for security of the...

    Main electric cables

You could have it removed completely, but its kinda dark in the winter! Surely you can dictate to some extent where they attach things to your house! Or maybe even get them to pay for a structural steel plate to be buried in your fascia?!?!?! Amazing how much solemnity is added to a sad...

    low voltage wedge lights

I know that you have to obey manufacturer's instructions to comply with regs essentially, but why are they all sticking this FCU malarkey in their destructions? You dont have to run LV downlighters off a spur! Technically, if you can get a neutral to the fittings off the same circuit as the...

    landline phone connection

VOIP is a whole different ball game. Let us know what router you have and this should be easy. Homehub allows you to have any line ring any phone, and yes to dial out on VOIP phone via normal landline, you just press 5. If your router doesn't do this, there are plenty of adaptors for VOIP...

    SceneStyle 4 (2 Way)

These sorts of things tend to have an input for external (usuallly momentary push) switches. so you have several of these wired in parallel, so that any switch you press causes a momentary pulse on that circuit, telling the dimmer panel to do whatever it is supposed to do for that scene or circuit.

    Some Help Please

Clever Cleverer still. Non-standard earth pin socket will prevent use for outside equipment too! To be fair, a UPS might iron out the leaks anyway!

    Loft socket from immersion cct

Flex outlet or cooker outlet plate. Both have breakouts, usually on the bottom, but if you are going up to the loft, then you could mount it upside down. The cable grip is the important part, stops the cable being yanked out of the plate.

    Garage - Consumer Unit.

You need to get your dodgy sparks back in to either rectify or give you some money. SY Cable not allowed outdoors! http://www.eland.co.uk/cables/control_flexible_cable/sy_control_cable.html Braid not earthed, needs to be glanded in a similar fashion to SWA...

    floodlight with pir

I am on the lookout for (if any of you happen to see one going begging) a SOX bulkhead of some description. Yes I know they are horrible and orange, but I don't care. I hate PIRs, live in the middle of nowhere, and would like it on all night on a p/cell so it has to be as efficient as possible...

Loft socket - can I take a spur from THIS?

Not that anyone is advocating this, but the circuit would obviously have to be fused down suitably at the spur. No one is suggesting running one double socket off a 40a (hopefully bigger for a 10.5kw) shower circuit! I'm hypothesising here, not suggesting. Almost hijacking the thread to ask...
