    Service/Meter Upgrade?!?!?!?

REC just told me that DNO upgrade for cutout has to come before REC will upgrade meter? Does this seem a little odd to you? i.e. I can pull 100A through a 60A meter before the cutout goes?

Re training as an Electrical engineer???

Most electrical engineers should register with an institute, maybe just not the institute! To be fair, that's harsh, its the consultants that are all mental!

Wiring an extractor fan in a bathroom

Not being nasty, but you keep coming back to suggest new and improved ways of doing it! Got a low energy lamp? If its on for three minutes while you have wee, thats 0.009 times 0.05 times 18p for a kWh these days? £0.000081 if my maths is correct. I dont think that amount of electricity is gonna...

    Storage heater

Heatstore is a City Electrical Factors in house brand. They have been known to be rebadged Dimplex etc. Dimplex almost certainly do, but I thought all SH had to have the thermal link. UK Spares, in Bristol I believe, is another company that might help in that case, although they may be trade...

Panda Pipes? Aren't they the crazy coloured fizzy drinks you can only get in fish and chip shops. I am glad I wasn't around last night, you were clearly all ****ed! What with this and reading in the garden at midnight (Which is where I was whilst you were all drinking!)

    floodlight with pir

Is this the crazy thread? Can't believe I missed out on all this fun yesterday! To the poor OP, several things: I can't quite work out what you are aiming to do but: 500W? totally necessary? How big is your garden? With or without PIR? Switch required either way.

Wiring an extractor fan in a bathroom

Single point of isolation is advised! You don't wanna have to make sure the plug is out of the socket and the DP is off to work on the fan/stop someone who is touching the fan getting electrocuted. Unless you are suggesting permanent live from plug to fan and separate switch, then back to fan's...

Re training as an Electrical engineer???

2381 in sixty minutes is the minimum. Or 10 minutes in B&Qs tool aisle for some! Plus an hour at the van signwriting place ordering some fancy wording!!!

    terminating a power socket

That bloody terminator image frightened the life out of me. Crimps and heatshrink or a chocbox would mean you could tile over it. Why not just leave it there. I normally don't like it when people don't help the OP achieve what they want, but in this case it seems odd to get rid of it...

    main switch & fuse identification

Most fuse manufacturers do charts to show the multitude of fuses, their part numbers, equivalents from other manufacturers and BS numbers. Bussmann used to do a really good book, and I believe MEM did a little laminated chart. Get in touch with the people that make them now and see what they can...

    Cutting out brickwork

Check out Armeg http://www.armeg.com/index.html Under Electrical in the products section you will find their box sinkers. Neveer tried them, but have heard good things.

Can ring main be extended into attached garage?

The breakers sound like Crabtree C50, which are becoming increasingly difficult to source now. Slightly different from Type C breakers which would be worrying if it were the case! New consumer unit would do you a world of favours, and chances are the garage issue would almost appear free if...
