    Installing new shower

I have to say, on this occasion, it would appear that the OP is looking for the whys and wherefores and not just the "patronisation" that it's "obvious" what he needs to do!

    Outdoor Electrics

Garden circuits on the same RCD as indoor sockets can be annoying. Outdoor circuits are susceptible to damp that will trip out everything in the house! Stick an RCBO on the non-RCD side for outdoor stuff, or perhaps another RCD protected board off of the non-RCD side with your various MCBs in...

    Countersunk Driveway Lights

Catenary Wire? I'd like to see that happen! What about a oft used trick of the trade..........flood lighting? I'm sure all those astronomers will hate me for my light polluting ways, but it can be done carefully and tasefully, and more efficiently than just chucking a 500W TH up there...

Power socket in middle of a room

I'm sure there's still a fair collection of it in my folk's garage. Mind you, I reckon I could open a wholesalers out of there! Or a museum perhaps!

Wiring an extractor fan in a bathroom

Just set the run on for 30 minutes, and if you don't want the light on but want the fan on, just slick the light on then off. This should be enough to get the fan running! Normal wiring then applies, and don't "consider" a three pole isolator! You have to put one in! There are three poles...

    Garage - Consumer Unit.

Can I just add to this that its NOT SWA, but SY cable, not mechanically protected to nearly the same extend. Instead of steel wires around the cores, you just have a steel braid, which will a) not stop a spade and b) still need to be earthed for the same reasons SWA armour is. Not sure about...

    Installing a Wall Lantern

Manual overide? Mind you I hate those things! "To turn the light on permanently enter PLEASE STAY ON in morse code!"

    Pool Heater and Part P

Well no, but it is a good suggestion for the guy who's missus wanted the lights in the patio. SWMBO's that get ideas above their station should be sent to your gaff for a "swim"

    New sockets/wiring in kitchen

A lesson to us all JohnD, and whilst I might mock just a little (all tongue in cheek) due to your vivid imagination, it has to be said this is really valid. I'm getting worried about the "it'll be alright if you just...." crowd. Helping nobody by teaching the bodges! I love a good story...

installing fridge and washer to plug point?

That's alright, Oli (See what I mean!)

installing fridge and washer to plug point?

Once the valve is opened, water rushes into the machine where it is controlled by the machines own valves. No need to touch it from here on unless you develop a leak. I know very little about plumbing to my shame. Never really got to grips (no pun intended!) with it. All I will add is that...

installing fridge and washer to plug point?

Open that baby up and let rip with the clothes washing! Might be worth getting some sort of bung for the hot, just incase the valve on the hose doesn't last forever. They must sell them in Wickes (sorry to send you back there!)

installing fridge and washer to plug point?

Can't vouch for Wickes own brand quality, don't know who makes it for them, but to see a socket burnt out internally, rather than due to bad wiring is rare in my opinion. Just make sure your wires are in the terminals full, no copper showing, and that the terminals are tight! Most washers...

    Audio/Visual Wiring

Yes that could be the case, but it also implies that Sat 1 is distributed via the amp separately, Sat 2 goes to the decoder then gets multiplexed in with the uplink back the box to be fed around the house, so every room has "aerial+Sat2" and Sat 1 if you run two coaxes from the amp. If not...

    lcd tv

It isn't likely to get any more chunky than HDMI now though surely! Its an all in one video and audio connector not much bigger than USB or Firewire. Can't see us reverting to something along the lines of a TPNE 125A Commando this far along the technological road! Although in essence I...

Power socket in middle of a room

Lol! First thing I did was google it! Was it always more of a racking thing than a structural thing like strut?

Power socket in middle of a room

Well I may have to take a trip up to Yorkshire in order to check one out! Dexion - is it still called that?

    4 core SWA - 2 circuits OK?

Agreed, but a 4 pole isolator would do the trick!

    Consumer unit (RCD)

With some of the more exotic marines, all you have to do is look at them funny and they die! I bet there are a few fish keepers who have cursed an RCD or two! I quite like the idea of an RCD supply only whilst you maintain the set up though! Might become tedious keep swapping over though. Oooh...

installing fridge and washer to plug point?

Let me say there ain't many electricians with that attitude! As an ex-purveyor of fine Deta and Vimark goods, most seem to want to pay as little as possible, because as long as it lasts the length of time they are on site, they're happy.
