    Oven element blown, fan question

Thanks for people's advice. I do find it odd that the fan now comes on immediately, now that the element is not working, whereas it used to take about 10 minutes to come on. A bit like a chicken and egg situation - was the fan coming on late caused by the element being faulty and gradually...

    Oven element blown, fan question

Thanks - I understand that but I am still not sure if the element is at fault or the fan has killed the element somehow by the fan itself being faulty. So I don't know whether to replace just the element, or the fan motor as well.

    Oven element blown, fan question

Thanks for your reply Frank. Not sure how I would go about testing things to determine if it was the fan or the element, especially as presumably the element is now kaput.

    Oven element blown, fan question

Hi there, today our oven was on when the electric tripped. When reset the oven would not heat up, the thermostat light stayed on although the fan worked. Classic signs of a failed element I believe. When I removed the back plate there are no visible signs of the element failing, it looks in...

    Cracks around UPVC doorframe

Hmm I've finally got round to giving this a go with the screws mentioned. I've drilled the first hole with a 210mm bit x 6.5mm, the hardest part was getting through the frame and metal reinforcements. Anyway done that and into the brick. Screwed the first 7.5mm screw in, only needed a hand...

    Cracks around UPVC doorframe

Thanks again for your advice. Just one more thing, just been looking at the drill bit and screw set - it mentions an SDS bit - I don't have an SDS drill, do you think my normal drill will suffice with the normal masonry bit so long as I have the drill in hammer mode? Also due to the thickness...

    Cracks around UPVC doorframe

Thank you very much for this advice. So just to clarify, use the acrylic sealant for the largish outside chunk of cement which is about to fall out? Don't use cement at all? And use the same sealant as filler for the inside, once I've removed the chunks of plaster? Just as a point of...

    Cracks around UPVC doorframe

Hi, I thought I would resurrect this thread as we now have the further issue of the cement on the outside of the door frame having cracked and about to fall out - see pics. I'm pretty sure the overriding problem here is the frame has come loose from the brickwork it was originally attached to...

    Radiator leak from top valve/nut

Thanks for your advice. It's not directly next to the toilet but about 5-6 feet away. System prob not drained for 5-6 years when this rad was fitted, I think doing that is prob beyond my capabilities but will mention to a friend who undertakes such things. Thanks again.

    Radiator leak from top valve/nut

Hi I noticed this morning our bathroom radiator had a small dribble of water down the side of it. On closer examination it seems to be coming from the large hexagonal nut at the top - not sure what this is called, its the opposite end to the bleed valve. It looks like there is a rubber seal...

Gap between uPVC window frame and window sill

Ah, one thing I didn't make clear here is that the frame does not sit on top of the sill, the frame sits on the brickwork I believe (with spacers or whatever underneath), and the sill is pushed up to the frame. So the gap is visible when looking down onto the sill as opposed to looking directly...

Gap between uPVC window frame and window sill

thanks pinenot - no it does not have an apron (thats the bit below the sill right?). I will try and upload a pic later. Thanks again.

Gap between uPVC window frame and window sill

We had an upstairs conversion done about 5 years ago, new gable ends were built and new windows put in. I noticed recently that a slight gap has appeared at one end of the window frame, between it and the inner window sill. Only about 1 - 1.5mm at most I suspect (at the moment!). I wonder what...

    Dudley Turbo flush

Thanks. The height of the new one is the same as the old one. I've established that our cistern is 9L so the 2 white plugs are correctly in place. To me it's just a bog standard (excuse the pun) toilet. Today on a couple of occasions I had to flush twice in order for it to flush. Just don't know...

    Dudley Turbo flush

Hi, for some time our toilet has been hard to flush, it's a Dudley Turbo 88 syphon which when I removed I noticed the diaphragm was split and also the clear plastic stopper was missing. I cut some plastic sheeting I had to size to replace the diaphragm and cut a cork to shape to replace the...

    Cracks around UPVC doorframe

Hi thanks for your reply. On this side of the frame there are 4 screw holes, of which only 1 has the screw fully screwed in all the way. The others look like they have some sort of substance around the head of the screw - filler/sealant type of thing. Should I try screwing them in deeper? I...
