Extension: Thermalite block vs timber frame

Surely if you S/E has spec'd timber frame then thats what it should be? You can (should, I've not seen it so just second guessing) run brickwork up the outside to match existing. Timber frame can be one of the best methods of building for a highly insulated build. There is a vast amount of...

Well if you gonna pay that I'd be VERY interested in having a look for you :P Without seeing the job nobody can give you an idea of prices, may sound like a cliche but its true, we need to see whats what. Seriously if your on the East side of London I'd be glad to have a look for you.

    Cold Conservatory

My Conny had a ceiling like your proposing, horrid and dark in my middle room, I've now put new windows and roof on, with very high performance glass and seriously insulated walls and floor.. no poly carb as I dont like it. When I was building connies for a living my first bit of advise was...

Profile 22 and swish window systems...

I hate the look of Profile 22, unless its changed in the last few years, never understood the double chamfer.. Swish looked pretty good last time I saw a sample and as Mw has said a bit more expensive than Profile 22. Rehau are one of the best.. if you can find a local firm using that and the...

    another door rattling problem

They should have an adjustment on the keeps to pull the doors closer in, also if you have roller cams these can be adjusted too with a allen key. They have a concentric pin, indicated with a line.

How dry does it need to be to build a wall

I would like a few nice dry days before but having said that its not impossible to laid in adverse conditions, just takes a bit more time and patience. If you have bad weather after, i.e heavy rain ,cover with boards, plastic, what ever you have, mainly the top courses. Temp wise if its...

upvc bay window.......what do I look for?

I dont think you can get away from wide 'joints' when the angle of the window changes, we have to get a screw jack in there and the windows cant be cut down ala wood at the back. Internally glazed, fully welded, bay re-inforcement rule (fully re-inforced) agon filled, swiss spacer, soft coat...

    seals

Sounds like a conny roof made from window profile to me, nightmare now unless you know the profile, even then getting the right sized wedge gasket will be a mission. I used to have tubs of the stuff, sat around for years so I threw it all away..

Crikey, I'd be too scared to cut that down... I'd probably find it easier to cut a new hole and throw in a lintel... And still have some change

Can't find a 25/45 Double Euro cylinder lock.

Sorry to have sounded so negative, its just that I run around in my head about the best way to do things, throw lots of 'what ifs' in the mix and tend to stump myself and then do nothing! Better sometimes to go with the saying.. Ignorance is bliss! If it does the job and works put it in...

    Non-textured frosted glass

Stippolyte is pretty smooth.. check here http://www.pilkington.com/pilkington2004/both/applications/productdirectory/flash/textureglass.html £1700 is not bad, I'm coming out at approx £1500 inc vat (not that I change vat, just wanted to see the comparison) so its a ball park price..

Can't find a 25/45 Double Euro cylinder lock.

If somebody wants to get in, they will get in, bumping, drilling or just snapping the cylinder all work, kicking in a flat panel, taking off hinges, brute force with a crow bar can all be done with a bit of know how... just get one that fits and try not to worry to much about it. I was nearly...

Absolutely right, Wood grain windows are a nightmare and as for doors, I'll never fit another door thats likely to get ANY sun, I've had to re toe and heel doors were the butyl has been re melted because of the heat build up causing the door to drop! Years ago door panels were not made to...
