    36kW single-phase water heater

Going by the quoted voltage range I'm guessing these are pitched primarily at the American market - 208Y/120 3 phase and 240/120 split single phase are standard supply configurations there. Plus, they have higher capacity domestic supplies there - 200A @ 208/240V is the modern standard. So...

    Electric Cable

Are you absolutely sure its a cable? I can't get much of a sense of scale from the pics, but at first glance the 'connector' in that first pic looks very much like something I've used in the past to join lengths of blue MDPE water pipe.

    MK Logic Double Sockets

Assuming the sockets are currently in 25mm boxes, what about replacing those with 47mm ones to stick out proud of the wall and then getting the carpenter to cut the aperture in your new units around the edge of the boxes - with a bit of adjustment they can probably be made to be flush with the...

Fuse Holders to fit into a modern day Distribution Board.

Last time I looked Wylex and Hager (and probably others) did single pole BS1361 HRC modules up to 45a which fit in their standard distribution boards. I've used them in the past to achieve discrimination on a submain originating from a main board. Could be an option if the design parameters allow.

    Recommended Extractor Fan for En-suite

Yep, CPC connected and cores sleeved appropriately at both ends. TN-S system. Interesting what you say about the CPC. Why would it increase induced voltages?

    Recommended Extractor Fan for En-suite

I've got one of these in my en suite, really effective and would recommend it: http://www.nuaire.co.uk/products/catalogue/residential/extract-fans/genie/ The model I've got runs constantly (practically silent) at low level and boosts up to full speed when the light is turned on then back...

    Strange cutout - Westie?

Is that a cut off cable poking out of the red fuse carrier? I presume that's live too. I'd get them out to rectify a dangerous situation if so.

    is this TN-S or PME?

Edit: should have read OP first. Does the Ze test okay?

    Picture of the week!™

The very earliest ones (with no earth I seem to recall) came supplied with 1a BS646 fuses, the later ones with 2a BS1362.

    Reliability of Type B MCBs

I installed some Volex gear last week. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by it - good sized enclosure, seemed to have more wiring space on the top side than you get with Wylex or Crabtree and made of good quality materials. Only downside was, as with alot of units, that the fit...

    Why are my lights tripping?

Are Hager BS1361 cartridge fuse modules still available? Replacing the offending breaker(s) with those might be a neater solution.

    Is this a cowboy job?

Ouch. That looks rough. The light switch cables aren't really where you'd expect them to be (and not in safe zones) The socket circuit extension meanders along the walls, again not really where you'd expect it to be, and not in safe zones in the corners. I'd have found out where the...

contactum rcbos for 'old' style boards

Old ones still available here: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Consumer_Units_Index/Contactum_Old_Range_Index/CMD_RCBO/index.html[/code]

    Earthing?

Seems to be an MK thing since the beginning of time (well the 60s anyway) - their shallow pattresses have always had a largely irrelevant 'TOP'. I wonder if there ever was an original purpose to it?

    Have not noticed this before

Whats the earthing arrangement there? I can see that central stud you always got on old Eastern Electricity supply positions so I'd assume TN-S but can't see where/if its connected to the sheath/head.

    High Ze

I've never really had a bad experience with Western Power - they seem a pretty solid company with commitment to keeping the network maintained rather than making oodles of cash being their primary motivator. Reading all these other experiences of the hoops other DNOs (especially EDF it seems)...

Quick history question - MK fitting design.

MK Logic square style sockets first came out in 1975, though the same style switches were available earlier - I've got a 1972 catalogue which lists MK Logic (though they weren't called that then) rocker light switches, with all other accessories being the curved edge style with toggle switches...

    Identify this plug

There were two versions of the MK clock connector. The earlier one available in the 1960s was physically smaller and came supplied with a BS646 1 amp fuse in the plug. Not entirely sure of this but I seem to recall they had no earth connection. I've got one stored away somewhere, I'll see if I...

    Negative head pump

When I did my first plumbing job some 23 years ago, raising a CWS tank from a first story airing cupboard up to the loft to provide extra head for a shower, I extended the feed pipe from the CWS with an appropriate fall, but did a cack-handed job of extending the vent pipe so that after rising...

    Television Reception

I see you live in Birmingham. You're probably served by the Sutton Coldfield mast. This goes over to solely digital broadcast in September this year - at that time the digital power putput will be increased massively, so if you get good reception on the main five (analogue) channels now, you'll...
