By overflow, I take it you mean safety discharge. The main reason is that it won't ever shut down again properly and you will constantly lose pressure from your system whilst your blood pressure rises at a corresponding rate.

If the pipework to your radiators are hot, but the rads are not then the likely causes of the problem are:- One or more valves shut Rads full of air and need bleeding Rads full of sludge and need flushing But if you want the job done properly, Dave from Hinkley is your man :)
