    Shower mixer tap

Hi, We have a shower mixer tap (fed from an electronic pump), it looks good quality, just needs some TLC I think. I can turn it easily towards hot, but it's very very stiff to turn back to cold. If I frantically twist it back and forth it frees up, but only for a day. Is there something I...

    Central heating drain valve

Also, is there a way I can tell if my cylinder is primatic? The cylinder has a foam jacket and doesn't look THAT old so i'm assuming it's could a coil in it hopefully?

Replace radiator (2 old with 1 new)

Ok thanks! I wasn't sure if there were any negatives on the boiler etc

    Central heating drain valve

I tied the ball float valve up in the header tank (cleaned the tank out as well) and then drained down a little from the CH drain valve. When I realised the water was steaming (even though the rads were cold) I thought maybe the coil is on the same circuit as the heating, so I just ran hot water...

    Central heating drain valve

My plan was to prepare the CH system for some radiator replacements, but first I wanted to put a cleaner in the system for a week to try to clean out what I can in advance. I'll then drain that away and hopefully have a 'cleaner' system for when I start replacing radiators. I assumed there...

    Central heating drain valve

Ok thanks for confirming! I also noticed that hot water was coming out even though the heating was off (had been for hours), is it possible it shares the same pipework that goes from the boiler to the hot water tank upstairs? This confused me as I thought the boiler heated the radiator...

Replace radiator (2 old with 1 new)

Hi, We have a microbore system (8mm I think) and one room (quite large) has two radiators in it due to a previous extension. Both radiators are mismatched, one looks much older than the other and is clearly due for renewal (70's house). As an experiment I've switched off one radiator and the...

    Central heating drain valve

Hi, I have a quick question regarding the drain valve for our CH. After turning the valve it feels dry and loose and just a few drips of water came out of the outlet, it's probably 20+ years old. The plumber just replaced the washer and said that was all that was needed. If I connect a hose to...

    Bath waste pipe layout

Cool, thanks! Good to know the plan is roughly correct! Why would you use a vent pipe in the house? Is this a common thing? And yeh I think there may be a small blockage somewhere in the 40mm pipe as you say. I will be glad to bin it all and start again!

    Bath waste pipe layout

We are in the process of renewing our bathroom, it is outdated and it also smells, there is obviously a problem somewhere along the lines! The current setup is that there is a 40mm waste pipe going from the soil pipe to the shower tray and the sink waste is connected to that pipe in the...

    Open Fire

    Open Fire

We just bought a house and have cleaned up the fireplace. Its a 1985 building, the fireplace backing looks very clean. Can you use a woodburner/open fire? Do all chimneys just 'work' or is it designed for gas fires? How much does it cost to get it checked roughly? Also, can you even get...

Honeywell st699 (I think) , heating not turning off.

Excellent! Still not obvious as to why that happens, but it does work, so cheers 8)

Honeywell st699 (I think) , heating not turning off.

I left the 2nd on /off as default, think they are set at 12am/12am , the unit was switched off a while back and the time did not stay in memory, so I assume the battery is dead also.

Honeywell st699 (I think) , heating not turning off.

Hi guys, in need of a little help with our heating timer. I think its the st699, (has once and twice time settings). I set it up like this:- Time = correct 1st Start = 5:00pm 1st End = 5:20pm Heating = Once Hot water = Const Basically, at 5pm the heating kicks in, no issues...
