    Any advice on hiring scaffolding

yeah. when I had my solar panels installed the electrician specifically required double boarding and some other things... In the end there was no double boarding (or at least partial) and nobody complained.... I guess if you need to lift up heavy materials they might deem it safer... although a...

    Any advice on hiring scaffolding

+1. I saw prices ranging from 600 - 1500 for 12 weeks hire so definitely worthwhile to compar. Make sure ladders are included (should be default really) and a rope pulley. Some tradesmen require double boarding, depending on what they do.

    Copper pipe damage

Thanks for responding. I don’t have any solder, any other way for securing in a DIY friendly way? Ideally I would like to avoid to drain the system.

    Copper pipe damage

Hello, during some re-wiring I noticed that one of my CH microbore copper pipe had a small nick/scratch. The floorboard had a small piece of metal pushing against it! It is not leaking and may have been like this for years, but keen to hear your views. Does this absolutely need to be...

    Alarms - Mains Wired, Interconnected

Been thinking about this a bit more.... I do not have the right equipment to do heatshrink and crimping... I did buy this Hager JB, but it's huge! The box is as large as the entire opening. Even if I open up the hole a bit more and free up the void, it will still take up a lot of space and...

    Socket in 18mm chipboard

I used 47mm centaur drylining boxes e.g. here in the past to install a box into a laths and plaster wall, as I required extra thickness to pass the plaster and the laths. I can't remember the max depth they do, but they have a spring system for the holders and they were recommended to me...

    Alarms - Mains Wired, Interconnected

Alright, I've decided to go with option two. Frist, enlarge hole downwards and remove as much debris as possible. So that will give me some space inside the void. Remove some of the laths and push cables back inside the cleared void. I severed two cables, one ring and one 3core+cpc light...

    Alarms - Mains Wired, Interconnected

If it's okay with you lads, I would like to continue on my thread and ask some more questions... Bank Holiday weekend allowed me to do some more progress on this, but it was a pain. I managed to drill through the joist and place a cable, but no chance to get it into the void. This is the top...

    Alarms - Mains Wired, Interconnected

Tried, didn't work for me. Why make things simple when you can make them complicated... I've cut a hole in my ceiling now...because... why not... the plaster was bloody 40mm thick and the lath screws are super old. Even with no plaster in between my magnetic stud finder did only just about...

    Alarms - Mains Wired, Interconnected

Ok, so after a week of easter hols, feeling a bit more refreshed to make some progress on this one. I am starting from the top floor, as the lower ones are much easier >> Just lift carpets, open floor board and run wires. The Top floor is the difficult one. I am looking to install the smoke...

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

Same here, I just switched to agile today actually. Octopus keep switching simple enough. Let’s see how it goes.

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

FYI, GaryDoesSolar just uploaded a new video discussing the very recent drop in export rates on octopus flux and it looks like it could stay or even get worse. I never plan to export at peak times, because I dont have quite the capacity, but also want to reduce battery cycles as much as...

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

Not sure about the remote switching, but stories of bad installations I have heard as well and there were various articles on the BBC reporting about it. Mine has worked flawlessly but this is definitely a fair argument to be cautious. I thought it was more based on a specific technical issue or...

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

Can I ask why? A colleague of mine also refuses.. he says they would force him to switch tariff.. which is not true, as I have gone through it and was not forced to do anything. it's for free, more accurate, you can monitor live...you don't need to switch.. I see no downside for me at least...

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

That is correct. When I moved over (whilst still being on one of the 50year old black rotor meters), I did not have any choice of smart tariffs. Once I got the smart meters, I had access to many more (excluding a few EV specific ones). There is no way of correctly measuring in 30 mins intervals...

Off-peak tariff, does it really save money?

I use Octopus Flux and quite happy with it, although rates are not as good this year as they were last year. They do differ by region, so make sure you check with the correct postcode. Last year the difference between daytime export and offpeak import for me was just 1 pence! So charged at 15p...

    How to open unit

I assume different manufacturers have different setups, but I was facing a similar issue a few months ago. My flushboard cover is attached on the sides with clips. There is a special tool to unclip, but I just used suction cups (from a bathroom towel hanger). Attached on both sides, quick pull...

    Repairing concrete

yeah I remember searching a while... if you get a pack of 5 or 10 it's ok, but I only needed one. So in the end I bit the bullet and went with amazon £15 quid....

    Repairing concrete

I have used this tub in the past to patch up some brick work and some minor repointing. Will probably not use it again. - This "beige" is quite beige and very bright. I thought this beige would match my existing 3to1 sand cement mix, but it is way too bright and visually stands out - Very rich...
