    Quoting

It's quite common now to give a budgetary figure, if the customer says it's ballpark for what they expect, then I always put it in writing. If the customer says that's far more than I thought, I may well have saved 3 or 4 hours worth of my time.

    Salamander CT50 Pump keeps failing

Same as above, salamander are not the product they used to be. Check dedicated 22mm supply from loft storage which should be 50 gallon minimum and 22mm hot from cylinder flange to meet salamanders requirements.

    Advice needed please - washbasin

In all honesty, it's one of those where 5 out of 10 would accept it and 5 out of 10 would flag it up. Let's not be too hard on the person that fitted it. If you're happy with everything else, this is nothing more than some heavy snagging. Basin off, pop off the tiles for access, expose the...

    Advice needed please - washbasin

It's not that difficult to alter if you still have a few spare tiles. I would estimate approx 4 hrs work.

    Advice needed please - washbasin

Did you tell the installer exactly what you wanted and importantly, was the sanitary ware on site to see what was required? It looks like a standard first fix with hot, cold and waste bought out together. Fine for almost anything apart from the basin you've got.

Vaillant boiler cycling when using Underfloor Heating

Big boiler, small demand. A lot of these were fitted without proper sizing. Not the boilers fault, just overboard specification.

Vaillant boiler cycling when using Underfloor Heating

A known problem on those 438's. Only sure fire answer is a header to give the boiler a chance.

Is my neighbour drainging their bath into the gutter?

I was just stepping out of the bath today when I noticed some chap taking photos of the back of the house. I slipped on the soap and ended up inpaled on the loo roll holder. I'm going to have to give the neighbour a knock and get him to pull it out.

Brass olives leaking should I overtighten?

PTFE is great stuff and has many uses. But new compression joints are not one of them.

Brass olives leaking should I overtighten?

If it makes you happy, you use it. Doesn't make it right.

Brass olives leaking should I overtighten?

Put the nut and the olive on the pipe, smear of paste around the end of the pipe, put the fitting together. Tighten. Don't use ptfe on compression joints, just don't.

No hot water - thermostat on water cylinder clicking - third replacenent valve!

I'm fairly certain those esi stats have some sort of legionella override, hence the extra core. May also be why your getting through valves. Check wiring carefully. Replace with same stat. They were fitted to ThermaQ cylinders.

My builder has cut part of the base of my new WC and bidet

No mate, not a builder. Took the pan in the photo I posted out the box this morning and noticed the lugs. Reminded me of the OP's photo from this thread.
