    laying Marley plain concrete tiles

lol, I did thin that to be honest :-) Not surpriseing considering the amount of times Architects and builders say plain tiles and mean large flat interlocking tiles Yup, gauge is batten centres, remember you need 50mm over the fascia to take the tile halfway into the gutter

    laying Marley plain concrete tiles

That'll leak rather! Plain tiles are laid at a 100mm gauge with a double course at the eave and top edge. TBH, it may be worth paying a professional to do it unless you are very competent, we see so many diy (or builder) tiled roofs that are just going to leak as someone wants to save a...

Roof coatings, what companies are worthwhile??

Prepare the battlements as you won't get too many positive replies on this one (including here). If you really really really really do want a quote for coating the roof also investigate cost of roof replacement and you may be surprised at the comparison, it prob won't be too different

Opinions on cost of this job please

TBH it's prob a bigger job than you may think as to remove and replace the valley will require a fair amount of those slates to be removed as well as far as pricing is concerned, get three quotes from reputable contractors and you will get the correct price, if the three are fairly similar then...

    Clueless Roof Insulator

Basically you should be looking to stop heat elevating into the roof-space as much as you can (no point in heating an unused area) so proper insulation of the loft is the way to go, if it is possible to seal penetrations and such like into the loft all the better though that is nigh impossible...

    setting out slates ,advice needeed

GRP valleys are a pain on mid slope dormers as you need a large lead saddle to get the water away, by the time you add in the top saddle it is just as cost effective to use lead anyway.

    Leak. ?? from where.

Yup, pic would be good but condensation would also be an option

Method statements and risk asessments for lead

They're a pain in the rectum aint they lol We're always told be people big into the whole H & S industry that every single one must be different cos every site is different, the only thing we change is the address! The whole Method Statement and Risk Assessment thing is just a paper trail...

New house roof but big conservatory

ah, the perennial problem of conservatories. Yup, as Noseall says a bridging section will be used or a cantilevered scaffold (which is probably expensive I'd think).

Pitched Roof with Boiler Flu coming through it?

You want a pitched Flexislate which has a malleable base and a rubber pipe weathering sleeve which is cut to size, if the pipe is too large you'll need a lead weathering slate made to size and pitch

    Tenting roof temporaryly

Just looking at the size of the tarp you've found, have you taken into consideration the measure down the pitches of the roof as well as the floor plan size?

Help! Where do water proofing and insulation need to go?

seconded, the description of the work is very odd and photo's will help enormously

    Tenting roof temporaryly

What hourly rate? Temporary roofs are indeed expensive but it will allow work to be carried out whatever the weather so some of that cost would be clawed back in time saving

Some help on roof insulation please

Yup, from what I remember that is a hybrid roof. As long as there is a vapour control layer between the plasterboard and the insulation that should keep the condensation away. Hopefully there is a counter-batten or a gap from the top of the rafter to the face of the upper insulation to...

    Mortaring a lead valley??

but then of course you could leave it dry, open valleys with plain tiles do not actually need to be bedded

    Tiles on EPDM / EDPM

I'd be surprised if any membrane manufacturer would say that you can bed tiles straight on to the membrane. Usually a protection fleece should be placed over the membrane and then covered. You could lay paving laid on top of paving supports which is fairly common. Other options include a...

Can concrete tiles be walked on?

They can be walked on as long as you are careful, tread on the overlap as the batten below will be the support and try to stay away from the interlocks, it is of course very likely that you will break some of course. Another option (as long as they aren't all fixed) is to remove some tiles to...
