Finally started the job today. Drained down system and set to removing the pump. However one of the fittings that connects the pump to the water pipes is very tight and Im afraid to force it. Ive sprayed on some oil in the hope it will loosen it. Any tips for this? Thanks!

One radiator in CH system does not work

Whats a head setting ? Is it pump speed?

I started the job today, but then realised I didnt have a wrench big enough to take out the pump. What I did do though was twist the 'taps' in the valve possibly too much. They are the type that you would use a screw driver to open or close. I thought they were the screw in/out type so I...

Well this is gonna sound unbelievable but I was out with my kids on our bikes yesterday cycling through a park and in the grass beside the footpath was a 25/50 pump. Today I stuck some power into it and it whirred to life. It seems in good nick, a tiny bit of rust around the out/inlets. It...

Ive had a look at the grundfoss website and while I do see a large selection of UPS pumps, I dont see an 18/45. I know my pump is more than 10 years old, prehaps they dont make them any more.

Sorry, its 9 rads. I forgot the utility room. The pump. If Im reading the right numbers its a grundfos ups 18/45 and its on the highest setting

I cant quite picture the boiler in that way.Perhaps it would be connected to the two sides at the bottom? In that case these rads are the top rungs. I've 8 Rads. Weirdly (ask the builder) the heat is going to the new downstairs rads, then upstairs, then back down to the last two rads.

I couldn't find it either. I think it meant to disconnect the rad and the open the valve and make sure there is a strong flow into your waiting bucket.

Ok, Steps followed. All rads are hot or very hot except for the two troublesome ones. Neither of these have even a warm inlet pipe.

Im afraid :D j/k I'll take all the advice I can get. I'll be strung up if I fiddle with the heating tonight. It sounds like a Saturday Afternoon job.

We'll I spoke too soon. I hadn't turned all the rads on. So now that I have them all on and theres a fairly good differential between in/out pipes, the two problem rads downstairs are stone cold. :( A bit of background. One of these rads was always a bit crap, and the other was always...

Ive drained and refilled the system. All rads are working a treat now. Thanks all!

So, Im going to drain the system down today. 2 questions though Does is matter which downstairs rad I should disconnect to release the water? (I dont have a drain valve) And Should I leave the header tank operational so as to create a clean flush of water through the system as I drain...

Good Idea. Ive poured a litre of cleansing chemical into it, before I filled the rads. I'll let it do its stuff for a week or so.

I struck oil inside the rads. Well at least it was a black tarry goo that came from the rads. I didn't do the bucket test, I'll put that down to ignorance. I'll try that next time though, its a sound idea.
