What plants to plant in front of fence?

Not sure if this is the right website for this question, but its my go to site for all my projects! I just finished a 10m long, 5ft tall fence. I would like to plant some plants in front of it as its more pleasing to look at. I am not into plants, so I have no idea what to choose. I would...

Are 150mm x 22mm ok for fence boards? Worried about weight.

Thanks both. I was worried maybe the weight is one sided and pull it forward, although it’s close to the post centre of gravity and they’re embedded in concrete 60 cm deep and about a foot wide. I will also be using some 45 x 45 uprights mid span of the 180cm posts to help reduce warping. So...

Are 150mm x 22mm ok for fence boards? Worried about weight.

I am building a horizontal fence made from 150 x 22mm thick boards. I want to minimise warping, fence panels are such shoddy quality and they warp and have gaps. So thought the 22mm would ensure a nice strong fence. They’re not feather edge. I have 100mm x 100mm posts at 180cm centres. Fence...

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

Hoping that will be some way off! Going to try those sleeves you melt on to protect the rot line. Have another fence with wood posts in concrete been there decades! But one snapped in high winds other day so I drilled the old post out and slipped a new one wooden one into the concrete and...

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

I’ve dug 5 out of 7 holes for the 2 x 3.6m spans but no concrete yet. There might be enough room in the hole to slide it over for a 6ft gap but if not I can open up the hole a bit. Thanks a lot.

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

It’s just over 10m so thought 2x 3.6m boards then cut the smaller span. I think I get you... I can have 1 x 6ft gap for every 3.6m board so if I do move to panels it’s half the panels that need cutting for the smaller gaps. Genius!!!

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

Oh, this question is irrelevant now... one of the holes had a massive boulder about 40cm down. I could not budge it. I could not find the edges or underneath. Must have been massive. So I had to move the post about 15cm across which would have meant it’s not the right widths anyway. As I’m...

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

Posts are not in but I dug 3 out of 9 holes so thought I’d check first. Since posting I dug another 3 so am committed now! yes worse case panels can be cut or even fixed to the front of the posts I guess.

Will 180cm centres (so not 6ft space between) be ok for fence posts?

I’d like to fix the fence boards direct to the posts. I’ve bought 3.6 m boards. So 3 posts at 180cm will allow a 3.6m board to span centre to centre and a post in the middle. I thought it would mean I won’t have to do any or much cutting. But I’ve just had a horrible thought that I’d in future...

Can't decide between off the shelf fence panels, or build my own

I was going to build my own fence. 1.8m fence, 7 posts. 1.8m post centres. Overlapping 22mm x 150mm treated timber just nailed or screwed to the posts.Like this https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/532621093438390005/ I worked it out, 60 or so 22mm x 150mm planks will cost about £100 more than if I...

Advice on horizontal fence - post spacing and if frame is needed

I’m thinking it’s ok to try it with without mid verticals and just span the posts. And if any warping or gaps appear I could add in verticals behind at that point.

Advice on horizontal fence - post spacing and if frame is needed

I don’t think I need to work the neighbours side but they’ll be fine if I do. Screws would go from my side through to any post or other verticals behind. or are you suggesting do it from the back to hide the screws? It’s just if they’re only 22mm thick there’s not much to screw into.

Could decking boards be suitable for an outhouse floor instead of say OSB?

Are you saying decking is normally on a slope for the rain to run off? I didn’t realise and not considered it. Would it be a huge problem considering it may not be exposed for years but only months. Maybe 6 months?

Could decking boards be suitable for an outhouse floor instead of say OSB?

I’d like to attempt to build an out house at the top of my garden. A glorified insulated shed basically. I built a nice shed and some canopies on my house so it’s a step up but confident I can do it. But it will take me ages, as I’d do it on weekends. I use OSB for the floor in my shed. But...

Advice on horizontal fence - post spacing and if frame is needed

Hi I’m building a new fence along my garden. I prefer horizontal boards than vertical. I don’t want gaps so will overlap the boards. Now, for vertical boards it’s really common to fix horizontal timber to the posts then nail the vertical boards to that. The spacing I can see is like 1 to 2ft...

Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

You can feel air moving a bit because there’s a lot of ventilation around the eves what would proper vents be? So instead of a gap put a vent there which is like plastic with holes in?

Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

No there’s no heat. I assumed sheds can stay dry without it. I have 2 other flat pack overlap sheds (so loads of gaps!) and they don’t have mould. Sunshine and warmth are nearly upon us so am sure it’ll dry naturally soon then I can wait and see if the mould comes back.

Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

I’m thinking of putting Windows in in the future when I don’t need to store my office in there anymore and use it more. That’s when I was going to insulate it. I didn’t think a window would help like you mentioned so maybe I should put it in sooner rather than later. I’m also going to hope it...
