Anyone converted a cold pitched roof to warm?

Hi all, Looking for experience of anyone converting a house cold pitched roof to warm roof. Can't find much info online about anyone converting an existent roof from cold to warm & roofing companies not really advertising this as a service. It would seem to me if you were having your roof...

Experience before and after room in roof insulation

Yes I did have that thought to slide down from loft/up from eaves but don't think it would be good enough. I.e. would be gaps, cold bridges? and no way to seal to stop vapour. Certainly easier to do nothing! It's disruption/pay out Vs real gain. If someone could say you'll half your heating...

Experience before and after room in roof insulation

Ok thanks. In our case, the space is big enough to get in, you can't stand but you're not crawling on your knees either. The dwarf walls could be done from the eaves side but on the sloped sections where the plasterboard runs parallel to the roof, the gap on the eaves side is rafter depth (100mm...

Experience before and after room in roof insulation

Basically bedrooms & bathroom upstairs are in the roof. It's a two floor chalet style house. The dwarf walls (silver backed plasterboard currently) are around 1.6m tall then it slopes to the ceiling. The eaves area on one side has a hatch and has been used to run a water pipe & storage basically...

Experience before and after room in roof insulation

Hi all, Any one done this or had it done and do you have any numbers on how the heat requirement of these rooms changed subsequently? I'm just thinking through what the options are and if worth it for the hassle/risks i.e. -Will it make much difference (filled cavity walls, double glazed but...

Gap filling where gable wall meets roof

Ok thanks for the info. It might be the angle of the picture but the masonry is definitely beyong the last rafter but not by a huge amount. Do you know if they used concrete, doesn't look like mortar on top of the bricks to make up any gap between bricks and whatever part of the roof contacts...

Gap filling where gable wall meets roof

Hi all, Can anyone tell me what is usually used to seal where a gable brick wall meets the roof? I've attached a collage showing the end rafters and the gable wall at one end of our house. It's obviously brick but it looks like they maybe used concrete slapped on? Not sure what that's doing...

Heating areas of house with no heat source

Yeah can do. Just wondered if there was a known recommendation on this. Was a random thing to try to search for online. Seems to be lots on whether to heat unused rooms. My feeling is would rather continue as we are because I'd rather not spread the heat from the lounge/diner to the cold areas...

Heating areas of house with no heat source

The kitchen is off our lounge/diner so we're in and out of there frequently. It has a glazed internal door so poor for insulation I assume anyway. The unheated extension area is really just a access corridor (approx 3m x 1.5m) to a downstairs bathroom but it has a door to isolate it from the...

Heating areas of house with no heat source

Hi all, Our kitchen and part of an extension has no heat source. When I have the heating on I tend to isolate these areas as much as possible by keeping the doors shut to them. Does it make sense to keep them cold or should I use the heat from other rooms to heat them? I.e. leave doors open...

Can I turn on electric shower if water supply is isolated?

Seriously!? Maybe it just sounds more complicated than it is.

Can I turn on electric shower if water supply is isolated?

It makes sense to me that the shower would have some means to protect itself from damage if there is no water. How else do you test things like this rare as it may come up..

Can I turn on electric shower if water supply is isolated?

Yeah there is high, eco or low buttons then the temp dial, so everything to low then basically, right thanks!

Can I turn on electric shower if water supply is isolated?

Thanks for the comments, I did wonder if it would turn itself off due to lack of pressure. The only thing I can do regarding turning off heating elements is put it on the low setting and turn the temp dial down to cold as far as it will go?

Can I turn on electric shower if water supply is isolated?

Hi all, I'm trying to find the mains water isolation valve for an electric shower and I've found one that might be it but I need to test it, by presumably turning the shower on while the water is off. Is this safe to do and won't damage the shower? Thanks for the advice

Split wood on gate-fill or not

Yes they're definitely splitting where nails went in, not sure it's split along the full length but may get worse. I agree though to remove and glue back or replace would be ultimate option. Hadnt considered the former. Thanks for the tips!

Split wood on gate-fill or not

Ok thanks for that, wow £30! I've never had an issue mixing the hardener although it does start setting pretty quick. Can't see what colour it is.

Split wood on gate-fill or not

Hi all, had a gate built but some of the panels are split I think starting where nails went in to secure them. I want to stain the gate light brown but wondering if these splits should be filled first. I normally use ronseal 2 part wood filler for things like this but it's white and it will...
