OK so that's the thermostat? Will give it a go. Where can I get a new thermostat from, halfords? I believe I need a new housing and sealing ring too (I guess it's that that's gone).
OK I've found out for sure where the coolant is leaking from because I've scraped away the rust with a screwdriver, dried it up and ran the engine for a couple of minutes and I could see the liquid seeping through.
I'm not sure of the part the leak is happening from or how to describe...
Located some replacement caps for a fiver each, will order some if any are too damaged. Just out of the interest, the other fiesta will need at least 2 new tyres soon, anyone know any best buys for 165/70R13? Preferably no more than £40 each! Thanks
Thanks everyone. I've decided to go with the Continental Eco Contact 3 seen as they are very highly reviewed, I'm not prepared to skimp on tyres and they are the only contact between me and the road! I took a centre cap off one of the wheels (one of the things holding it on snapped off so if...
Point taken but that's all I have, no key, so how do I get them off in the first place to chuck away? :? I'm guessing an independent garage couldn't do it
Thanks I think I'm going to treat myself to the Continental EcoContact 3 as I suppose they are the only 4 things holding it onto the road! I've got a quote for £180 from a local chester garage for fitting disposal and balancing. The only other question I have is I have alloy wheels but don't...
Hi I'm planning on getting some decent tyres for my 01 fiesta since I aquaplaned the other day, the tread on all 4 is getting very low and there is balding on the front drivers tyre. Is it worth getting a well rated tyre or am I just reading into this too far and giving in to marketing?! Is £172...
OK to flush the radiator, fill with water then run the engine until the thermostat opens and it dilutes the coolant left in the rest of the system? And repeat this over and over until everything is removed? I'm guessing that's the idea.
OK do you have any recommended products to do this with...
Excuse my niaveity! In the Haynes manual it says that "the radiator should be flushed independently of the engine to avoid unnecessary contamination".
I don't fancy taking the thermostat out so can I just drain it from the radiator and still flush out all the old stuff from the system with...
Thanks John for your advice. In the manual it says I'll need a new thermostat cover gasket and sealing ring for when I remove the thermostat to flush the engine of coolant. Where would the best place to get these be?
And also, I've got some gunk aerosol degreaser to clean the engine bay as I feel its time to clean it up and hose it down. Any tips as to how to go about this and is it ok to use the hose to blast away any dirt? Cheers
Hi just to let you know I changed the spark plugs on both cars (both 00/01 fiestas) relatively easily in the end with a spark plug spanner and metal bar for leverage. Thanks for your help.
As for the coolant, I've decided to flush the system in both cars and replace it with new...
