Hiya it's been a while but I'm hoping today is the day I final install this light switch. I would be grateful if someone could just look over what I'm planning to do before I go ahead. I've attached a photo. I have a brass screw that I will drill into the main box for the earth.

    Earthing Industrial Crabtree

Brilliant, thank you. I don't suppose you have any advise as to how I can clean the mechanism up better? I've used a old toothbrush and contact cleaner but there are a few tricky areas I can't get to. Is there any kind of solution I could drop it in to clean it up?

    Earthing Industrial Crabtree

Sorry but does that mean to drill a hole in the base and attach a screw? Or would it need to go in the faceplate?

    Earthing Industrial Crabtree

Hiya, I would like to change a light switch on the downstairs loo to an old industrial Crabtree. Could someone tell me if it is a straight forward swap or do I need to drill a hole into the base of the Crabtree to secure a earthing terminal? I've added some photos of the light switch and the...

Using old crabtree (dolly light) switches (Ed.)

Hiya, could I use this 'dummy' switch to earth? I'm guessing not and it would be far safer to attach a brass screw into the casing. I was just curious.

Using old crabtree (dolly light) switches (Ed.)

    Rewire an old light fitting

I've been let down by 5 electricians so far who just didn't show and the only one that did tried to prise off one of the staples holding a wire with a penknife and when that didn't work said he would have tape the new wires to the piece. Could someone tell me if there is a way to test that the...

    Rewire an old light fitting

Hiya, I'm hoping someone can offer some advise. I have an old light fitting and was wondering if someone could tell me if it needs rewiring? I own a multimeter but I'm not sure how to test to see if the wires are functioning. It's a chandelier type set up with wires connecting to several arms...

Do I need a waste trap

There is a gap and I do run a hot wash every month with a washing machine cleaner. It has only been since we pulled everything out to decorate. I'm starting to wonder if the cause might be because the drainage pipes from the machine haven't been raised enough to empty properly. Are there any...
