    Is this right?

Sorry no its a std size, no outside loos etc, having some lanterns installed front back on the property and thats it. Had other quotes but this guy seemed pretty good but I cant see how it comes to so much for materials?

    Is this right?

Ive had some quotes, going through them now, just that this guy seemed pretty good. But the materials sounds kinda excessive.

    Is this right?

Sorry no I meant thats just for the materials, no labour. Its a standard 3 bed. No outside loos or anything. Im having a lantern front and back installed and a floodlight and thats about it. It just sounds alot for cable & conduit etc.

    Is this right?

A sparki is quoting approx £530inc for materials for a rewire for a 3 bed hse. Basically its for power cable, BT cable, conduit CT 100 cable, 2 way lighting cable & boards to upgrade a board to 17th edition. It sounds rather excessive to me or is this the normal rate??

    Rewire costs

Cheers Mr Owl, I will it is very cheap, too cheap I think. Nooo believe it or not some london houses are huge! Mines a typical 3 bed semi tho. big enough for me. At the mo the 3k one is lookin the most professional tbh.

    Rewire costs

Yes it was started but needs completion, as last guy was putting downlighters in and the loft insulation almost caught alight etc. Basically this guy needs to go through the work and install downlights in some areas also. He stated that theres only one wire to some of the sockets and says there...

    Rewire costs

If yrs was £1500, why is £1700 too cheap though?

    Rewire costs

All good answers, thank you. I'll check him out to see if he himself is registered. I'm not sure what he does full time, I'll find out. You right... cheap is not always the best way to go about things. He's going to use someone else to put all the wires in apparently.

    Rewire costs

Yep Im in london. I think he does commercial but been in the trade for over 40 years. He is NICEIC registered I believe. I can ask him for a timescale. I wouldnt pay anyone upfront tbh. Just seems a bit strange he wont provide anything on paper.

    Rewire costs

I dont know tbh. If he's not asking for £ upfront, maybe its a good bargain, as he wont get paid if he messes me about. I supply the materials.

    Rewire costs

Ive had some quotes to complete a rewire ranging from £1700- 4500. One guy says that he can complete the work for £950, but cannot do me a quote as he works for a large company. Its very cheap, is it worth letting him do the job and just ensure he does whats required?

    Fence colour brown or black?

Cheers Mate, I know long story but basically the height of the fence etc was too high. Its all in the ground now. My neighbour complained as it blocks view of a park and I see where shes coming from now. Ideally Id of cut the other end if Id of known. My other option is to remove the posts...

    Fence colour brown or black?

Yes black is very different I guess. Well their already painted so not much I can do about that now. If a panel rots I'll just have to take it out and replace it I spose :? Yes there is an external no more nails which is waterproof. Remember Im using a metal/wood cap on top of a concrete post...

    Fence colour brown or black?

Hi All, I've stained some fence panels, trellis & concrete posts with Cuprinal Autumn Brown, I wanted to paint the posts to match with masonry paint, but unable to find a brown to match, therefore my second option is to paint the panels, gravel boards & posts black. Once the green plants...

    Downlights yes or no?

The LED dimmable white ones look ok. Not sure how bright they'd be though, think it said 11watts, not very bright then I imagine? About 90mm in size, not the smallest, but could be ok. Not cheap are they! Spose you save on electric tho. I notice that they are not adjustable also.

    Downlights yes or no?

Interesting views. Yes Im thinking about when/if I do sell also. Some may like them, but will most think hih leccy bills! Im swaying towards not having them. MAybe just a couple in the bedroom bays as a feature and thats it!

    Downlights yes or no?

Proble with these is the cut out size. Im after d/l's that are not too intrusive. The halogens are available in a 35w 'invisible' range that blend in with the ceiling. These are very discrete. Maybe leds would come into place for these fittings one day?

    Downlights yes or no?

unfortunately the cfls are not as small as id like, I wa aiming for 35wattage to keep them small. Are LEDs available in this size and are they silly prices? Yes I was thinking just a few, two on one side to hilight pictures but then id have to have two on the other to match?

    Downlights yes or no?

What are your opinions on downlights. A few to highlight pictures etc ok, or better to not make a 'cheeseboard ' of the ceiling? In a few years time will they be looked upon as a fad? I was thinking of four on each side of the ceiling and two in the bay and a pendant also. Opinions please...
