Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Good shouts thanks Woody, I’ll take a look on Friday/Saturday and report back. I wonder if that section is due to the oak panelling. Perhaps that’s just a colder material than a painted wall.

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Fair and appreciate it’s all relative. That said. So far it has helped me identify 3 issues (door compression air leaks, window reveal air leaks, and likely lack of film on that angled window) So the process is atleast somewhat working.

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

We noticed the the right angled window had arfefacts on it a few months ago, on closer inspection it looked lik the film had been put on backwards. We complained they took the unit away and told us a new unit had been made, but given the temperature difference, I reckon they just stripped the...

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

I suspect you're right. Once i've eliminated the possibility of draughts and/orr other easy to fix things, i'm gonna tackle those, it's still possible to change the units to triple glazed, or acoustic ones or whatever. Which is absolutely an option on the table. As is secondary glazing and/or...

And the rest of the attachments below. What do you think?

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Thanks @noseall looks as i'd expected, and nice and tidy. I've dug out a bunch of photos I took during the building of this extension, hard to verify exactly where there is and isn't insulation and frustratingly can't say for sure if it's in the eaves, but given that other areas look to be at...

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Not relevant to the post. But to easier trunk the cable directly to the projector.

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Not a chance she’ll let me do that now. Room has just been finished It’ll have to be outside or not at all. How could one confirm this is an issue before we start pulling things off the exterior?

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Yeah so mitre cut to tesselate on the Angle change is what I’m hoping to see. Where the wall insulation meets the ceiling insulation. Would that be easy to see by removal of the soffits? Or more fiddly?

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Thanks, Can’t count on warranty unfortunately the building team that did this have left the country. Long story… to do with tax! Steps for investigating the eaves etc, would that be removing soffits and fascia etc to take a look externally? If not what are the steps? I’ll take a photo when I...

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

We used the Kooltherm insulation/plasterboard stuff in some other rooms previously which worked well. But would rather not have to add more stuff to the interior walls in this room now if we can avoid it. Just had all the room painted, panelled, rads on etc.

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

I'll see if I can dig out some photos of when the roof was insulated, from memory it looked pretty snug. I think it had 100mm between the studs and 50mm below the studs. Radiators are 6kw total in there, and there's an 8kw gas-fire in there too for good measure!... it gets super toasty in...

Cold areas on recently built gable type extension

Hi all, I've been doing a bit of investigatory work recently on trying to improve how rapidly the temperature is falling in a recently built rear extension. It was all built to regs insulation wise as far I know and was signed off by building control. That said, having taken my thermal camera...

Wiring method for multiple LED Strips from single source

I will take a look tomorrow and post the ones I’m thinking of. I acrually don’t have a product in mind yet I just think led strips will be the best as I don’t have the shelf depth to do sunken downlights etc. I figured strip led lights hidden in a diffuser would be best all things considered...

Wiring method for multiple LED Strips from single source

I think they may end up being 24v due to length of the runs. Not too bothered about RGB, just warm white will do fine

Central Heating Issues - Rad water looks 'creamy' could this be a blockage?

Fair enough. But do you get the weird noises I’m getting too? Listening to the videos back it does sound like a squelching and splatting. Could air in the system be the cause of that? This one -

Wiring method for multiple LED Strips from single source

Thanks for the links. Sorry if a silly set of questions, but the cables that power the led strip lights look like this I think. It’s likely I’m wrong but my understanding was wall socket -> driver -> controller - > light strips I assumed the cables above would’ve gone from controller to...

Central Heating Issues - Rad water looks 'creamy' could this be a blockage?

Will do. On the videos above do you think the noises could be attributable to air in the system? Is it weird that it’s only happening on some rads and not others?

Wiring method for multiple LED Strips from single source

Quick question on this. What goes in and out of the junction boxes you’re mentioning here? Are they converting something from the driver or is there function different than that? Ie are they mains powered too? Or do I solely run mains to the driver?

Wiring method for multiple LED Strips from single source

Yeah makes sense. Ideally a consistent brightness would be much preferred. I worked out the total meter age of lights would be 10M though not sure if the cabling should be taken into account too. When you say 4 cables do you mean the led power cables? As in run 4 of them from the box up the...
