Best Method for Sanding Parquet Floor

I have no experience other than laying about 80m2 reclaimed parquet in my own house but I would say that a trio would be fine if all you need to do is remove the surface finish. A 40 grit on the trio machine removes material pretty fast (although not as fast as a belt sander) and is easier to...

Urgently need a large mitre box

draw a square with equal sides (ie not a rectangle or a parallelogram) and join two corners. You now have a 45 degree angle to the sides of the square. If you cannot work out how to use this to make a mitre box I strongly suggest you put away any power tools or sharp objects and leave the job to...

How to bolt wood to concrete ground?

or you could fix some threaded rod into the concrete with resin and secure the wood to the studs with suitable nuts? Anchors/rawlplugs are probably easier though.

Taking a uniform amount off a door edge

I use a festool plunge saw for taking straight runs off. It's quicker and straighter than a planer. When the frame is bowed or twisted the planer is obviously the superior tool. The festool is obviously an expensive tool for a job which can be done with a hand or powered planer bu if you have...

Whats best to fill gaps in floorboards?

I helped a friend sand and finish his old pine floorboards and we used a sikaflex brand deck caulking mastic (probably 290dc) to fill the gaps. It absorbs the expansion and contraction and can be sanded flush with the boards. It worked well and being black, it barely changed the look of the floor.

    advice on mains relay

[/url] Hi Bernard, Is it just to higher current rating which makes this contactor more suitable? Or are there other factors I should consider? Also the coil voltage on that is 250 -500. Would this one be better...

    advice on mains relay

Thanks both for responding the maximum load if all circuits on the relay side of the consumer unit are active is about 17a, I assumed that the 20a rating of the relay meant that it was capable of disconnecting this load. Is this not the case? I am not familiar with specifying AC relays so I...

    advice on mains relay

Hi all, I have a 20a mains relay (<250v ac) with a 230v ac coil. The relay is the finder 22.24 as below: http://www.findernet.com/comuni/pdf/S2221_22_23_24EN.pdf The relay is normally closed and needs 230v across the coil to open the circuit. The relay is going into a motorhome mains...

Leaking shower tiles - advice please.

if it's only temporary, you could fix some cheapy waterproof wallboard over the tiles. There are loads of manufacturers and most of them supply plastic strips for joining and teminating boards. Here's some 8x4 plastic cladding for £38...

    Extractor fan issues.

the newer fan is probably a timed unit which will stay on for a set period after turning the switch off. The L input is for a permanent live feed (not switched from the wall isolator) so that when the wall switch is off, there is still power to the unit untill the internal timer decides to...

Plywood floor; How to seal and what with? Help urgently need

I don't know if you've alrready brought the ply but with good grades of plywood it is not necessary to seal it. Anything marine grade should be fine. I have left sheets of untreated birch plywood outside for months with no delamination or warping, just discolouration.

    Condensation in Industrial Unit

Hi Neil, There are companies which specialise in spraying polyurethane foam insulation onto the steels and roofs of industrial buildings to help with the problems you describe. Using spray foam will remove cold spots for condensation to form on but wont help with the high moisture content...

    Plumbing aruond an IKEA kitchen

If you're plaster's thick enough you can chase the pipes into the plaster and put an elbow so it comes through the back of the unit in the right place. I agree IKEA need to sort this one out, it's been p*ssing off kitchen fitters for too long!

    Laying WBP plywood

I would make a template and cut it out of a single sheet. There are inumerate ways of doing it but this is as good as any: http://timzim.blogspot.com/2006/10/templating.html you can also do it out of pieces of carboard taped together and cut to shape.

    erbauer tools

I use an erbaur belt sander and it's been fine. There's not much to distinguish an expensive belt sander from a cheap one in terms of usability anyway. I brought a 4.5inch erbaur angle grinder and it was ****e, lasted about 2 weeks.

    Reclaimed parquet flooring

Very true. As much as anything else, little bits of bitumen get everywhere and so it is best to do it outside to prevent it getting all over your house. I made the error of washing some shirts with the clothes I'd been wearing when I cleaned some blocks and ended up ironing big black streaks...

    Reclaimed parquet flooring

Hi, I did about 25sqm of identically sized tiles last summer and plan to do another 30sqm this summer. Please do not underestimate how long this project will take. I spent an extremely long time sorting through the 100sqm I brought (v.cheap) to remove the tiles which had been damaged when...

    Some "TAPE" advice please

I would use the type or adhesives used by truck body builders to bond body panels to framework. Sikaflex are a decent brand with a massive range of adhesives; they have various ranges including construction, automotive and marine. They will certainly be able to advise you as to which product...
