    New Kitchen

We used tiles on our floor. The floor tiling was one of the more straight forward jobs as the sub floor was nice and level. Laying the whole tiles only took a few hours, it was getting the edge tiles that need to be cut that took time. You might not be able to see from the pics, but the...

    Re-filling Gravity Feed CH System

If you're sure your system is clean, then it could be the point where the cold feed from the F&E tank connects to the system. It's also worth double checking your pipework hasn't been moved in any way during the work you've been doing. We had our boiler changed a while back, but I left off...

    Underfloor heating

I'd agree with Tony. Looking at my BSRIA "rule of thumb" book, a domestic dwelling needs a heat loads of approx 60W/m2. In my experience the BSRIA guide is usually well above what you actually need too (good for estimating though as I'm usually quids in when actually do the job  ) ...

    Underfloor heating

You'll struggle to get an output of more than 100W/m2 to be honest, and even that would need you to screed over your pipework to create a more even distribution. You also need a manifold as underfloor heating works at much cooler temperatures to a traditional radiator system (you don't want...

    Exterior Painting

Hi chaps/chapesses, Just a quick question regarding exterior painting. We're currently in the middle of back yard tart up which involved having one of the walls rendered and the whole lot + the back wall of the house repainted. Unfortunately, the Great British weather struck just after...

new house, nice shower, doesn't drain.

How "generous" a fall is it? Sometimes water can run too quickly down a waste pipe and leave larger objects behind. Usually more of a problem in soil pipes, but I suppose hair in a shower waste could cause the same problem. It will be easier to change the trap, but might be worth...

    Bathroom lighting

Copied from Part P (under the "work that need not be notified" section). Work that is not in a kitchen or special location and does not involve a special installation and consists of: Adding lighting points (light fittings and switches) to an existing circuit Adding socket-outlets and...

    16 day bathroom project

Looking good! Just out of interest, what kind of costs were involved with the vinyl floor? I'm thinking of getting our walk-in shower floor re-done. No matter what type of sealant I use, the grout still stains :x

    Curved Architrave??

Hi all, We're in the process of re-decorating our Lounge & Dining Room. The 2 rooms are linked via an archway. In the past we've had the same wallpaper/colour paint in both rooms, but now we're going for same pattern, but different colours. SO, The plan is to paint the underside of...

    Kitchen fitting alignment question

Not by a DIY'er and a hacksaw! The OP would have to get them specially cut.

    Kitchen fitting alignment question

Why not just fit the units flush to the wall? This might mean getting you worktop angle cut to slightly less than 90 degrees, but it would solve your alignment problems.

    First time kitchen re-fit

There isn't really a way around it as you'll either have to pay for 2 visits, or pay for him to stand about waiting for you to cut the worktop. Just make sure you tell the installer up front what you're planning and negociate their price accordingly. They might be able call in to do the...
