    Hot water not working

The CH will be working fine if that valve is at fault. From I've seen/read, it looks as if the valve is either blocked or restricting the flow through your coil. The upshot of this would be no hot water.

Minimum pressure for gravity fed shower

You will never get the shower you want with a gravity system. If your mains pressure is that good, you can get a venturi shower, which uses the mains pressure cold flow to "pull" the hot water through as opposed to relying on gravity. You would certainly need a check valve on the cold feed...

    Expensive heatings cost!

As stem says, it's hard to diagnose without seeing a picture. My stab would be that someone has spurred the boiler power supply from the FCU that supplies the immersion heater and wired it wrong.

Combi Boiler Pressure dropping - no visible leaks

Should have just done this in the first place. He's now messed about with somebody else's system and is now likely to be blamed for any rectification costs whether he caused them or not!

Combination storage boiler - good idea?

I would advise against a storage combi. You might aswell just replace your existing combi with a system boiler and an open vent cylinder. I had nothing but problems with the last storage combi we installed so I may be biased though! Combis, as stated, have their time and place which in my...

New Sink fitted Waste Pipes Leaking

Another +1 for it being the B&Q fittings. I had to get these as the sink I'd ordered wasn't sent with the traps and waste pipework I also ordered. It was delivered last thing on a Saturday before the merchant closed and I was putting the sink in on the Sunday. I was left with no choice...

    New Kitchen

I know it's been nearly a year since my last post on this (rest assured it was finished in November 2008, however I haven't got round to taking any decent phots with everything done, until now! To say the only things I didn't do was the plastering, wiring and worktops, I think...

    Shed Base

Hi all, If this nice weather holds up, Saturday's job will be the construciton of a shed base for my new 6' x 4' overlap timber shed. I plan to; 1. Dig out an area to approx 80mm deep and apply liberal amounts of weed-killer to the soil (the area is riddled with dandelions and the...

    Rendering Existing Yard Wall

Cheers Stuart. So in effect, the scratch-coat will be pushed into the gaps between the bricks? Also, I noticed I mentioned lime in the scratch-coat. Is this correct, or should it only go into the float mixture??

    Rendering Existing Yard Wall

Hi all, During these last couple of nice sunny days, I've decided to make our back yard a nicer place to sit an enjoy the sunshine. One wall in particular has seen much better days and I've decided to have a go at rendering it and then painting. My planned method is as follows, I would...

    Dry Lining Advice

Thanks for the info Richard. Just skimmed through it now and I'll have a read when I get home tonight. I'll have to compare the costs of the 2 systems before deciding. The budget we can work out will also determine if the walls get skimmed or not. There are a few internal walls which...

    Dry Lining Advice

[/url] I don't really want to go down the route of cavity fill insulation (due to cold spots and bridging problems I've read about) and our walls aren't in the best shape. I'm also planning on constructing a small porch as at the moment our front door opens straight into our lounge. As the...

    Dry Lining Advice

Hi all. This Spring's project will mostly involve beefing up the insulation in our Lounge & Dining Room. I plan to batten out all the external walls (3 in total) and add insulation before boarding over, before lining and painting the walls. My question is, can I get away with just dry...

    Sagging Leather Sofa

Thanks Bob. Unfortunately our cushions are past repair as adopting your method results in them returning to their sagged shape. We will however be doing as you say with the new ones! I agree with you and don't mind the sagging as it's more comfortable, it's just that we have 2 sofas and the...

    Sagging Leather Sofa

Whilst I admit I may not be at my, ahem, fighting weight, the wife certainly isn't a "lump" It seems to be more the foam that isn't returning to its original shape than the actual support so I was thinking more along the lines of replacing that (the method of access will be the same as you...

    Sagging Leather Sofa

Hi all, Our 2 year old leather sofa has started to sag quite badly on the side that both of us choose to sit on first. It's a leather sofa with fixed foam cushions. Just wondering if anyone has suffered a similar problem and (even better) if anyone can suggest a remedy or even if people...

    New Kitchen

I take it he's on about dry-lining the room then? It depends on what finish you're after really and what type of decoration you plan to do. We were painting our walls therefore I wanted the finish to be as near to perfect as possible, plus we were going to need the ceiling and the new stud...

    New Kitchen

I know it's been a while since my last post, but was really busy getting finished and also had a holiday to cram in!! Had a NIGHTMARE with the worktops; 1st 2 went in great and then we unwrapped the 3rd only to find it had been bashed right down the length of the front edge and couldn't be...
