What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Do I have one? If not, do I need one? Should I get one fitted? Can you tell? Don't be so gnomic... I see 2 things that look like valves near that dial - both are black, one has 4.5 bar written on it, the other has 2.25 bar. The only thing that I find interesting about those (as they seem pretty...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

PRV is a new one on me guys... pressure release valve, pressure relief valve, pressure reducing valve? One of them, I'd hazard a guess at.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

The water dripping through the tundish - now a fair bit faster than 10 minutes ago - remains cold to the touch.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Right - 17:31 and it's started to sloooo-ooowly drip down the tundish.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Ah... I did turn them both on! But that's OK for this test - I think we're curious if the needle on that dial moves, right?

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

What you've mistakenly stated is that I intend to carry out any work on them. I do not. I intend to test and review and discuss. So, back in your box pal. Go protectionist-troll somewhere else.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Yes, well, I think that's a given, right? ;) I'm still curious as to why. I think we are looking at some interesting things here - it's a shame some want to seem to close down a discussion about a system by just saying "call someone and don't ask any questions, just trust them and pay the bill...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

So, I am not going to alter any valve, but I've just set both immersion heaters on, at 17:00, and will monitor what happens for the next hour... they've not been on at all for the last few days, since Wednesday last week, actually. Bathroom sink tap was tepid only at the start of the test.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Now that is a new one on me... there's 3 motorised valves that I can see... I'm gonna guess that you mean one that goes to the big cylinder where there's a label marked "Primary Flow"?

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

When it was gushing down the tundish at quite a flow it was very, very hot. I would say scalding hot, yes. If I put my finger in the tundish space when it's just starting to dribble, then it's merely very-warm! I don't even know what I'm describing there - do I? But you get the idea, it's a lot...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

It will slow down, yes; and it will stop if I turn off the immersion heater(s) and after having run some hot water off.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

I could certainly check that... I definitely need a shower!

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Just found this underneath the expansion vessel - that's looking good, right? Images located at a URL are not working again - anyone know why? http://www.hmusiccentre.org.uk/forumimages/boiler-03.jpg

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Is there something that shows me the pressure of the cylinder? Nothing is jumping out at me...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Ah, the answer is "no" then. Should I? Could I?

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

I did turn that black lever underneath the boiler, to the right-side of my picture, a week or so ago... but not because it told me I had to or anything like that - the boiler display is quite laconic - just because I realised I was getting no hot water from the boiler and thought I'd give it a...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

100% agreed. I'm just wanting to understand more... so at least I can hold a conversation about it.

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Thank you for this. I can confirm water never came out of the tundish when the water was being heated by gas, only when being heated by electricity. It was why I thought some kind of auto-cut-off failure on the immersion - just as was postulated. I guess I'm as in the dark as I was before. My...

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Yes, I know - I'm tempted... it's just that he did the Service back in February, so I know that he's familiar with the system - I also have faith that he'll not rip me off. I know it's not special, but I have had some people (I mean Central Heating Engineers) looking at it and going "urrh?"

What has gone wrong with my unvented system?

Good input. I had already tried that... the results were that I get discharge if both are on, or if one is on. If both are on, I've seen it shoot out at some speed, gurgling away (that was the day I could hear it from my Study inside the boiler cupboard with the door shut)... when I tried just...
