ICE 60320 C7 (fig of 8) leads with 5 amp fuses?

I can tell you for a fact that in the rest of Europe, where they don't have the magic fuse, but use the same appliances, people live in fear of their lives, with mains leads catching fire left, right and centre every day.

    Tripping RCD

I suspect he means the word 'fault'. A small amount of leakage is a normal part of modern device operation, as the X capacitors are more or less mandatory to meet EMC requirements. Other than the use of that word, it was correct.

Solve an argument: Should you turn ALL of the main switches off when working on electrics.

As a non-professional, it's whatever you feel safe with, provided you have a full understanding of the risks involved, and act appropriately. Having said that, anyone giving advice to someone else, is more or less obliged to say 'turn of the main switch' as otherwise you could be considered...

Interesting thread and a little "mention of twin socket rating" well sort of inference, if you like.

Well, I can't get very excited by how they are meeting the challenges! To meet these challenges the BS 1363 series 2023 revision now includes the following key changes: • The scope of all five parts now cover operating frequencies from 50 Hz to 60 Hz. • Modification to requirements for...

Interesting thread and a little "mention of twin socket rating" well sort of inference, if you like.

Well as I have pointed out before, it was re-released last year and no effort was made to fix the obvious problems. But people still need to fork out several hundred pounds for a new spec not fit for purpose (imho).

How to test (single-phase?) ac induction motor

FYI, here is a typical IC used for 4-wire fans. APX9173 datasheet Maybe it answers a few questions.

How to test (single-phase?) ac induction motor

I expect Eric was confused by the four wire interface usually used. GND, 12V, PMW control signal and feedback sense output.

    Spur off Double Socket.

By the way, the whole 'one spur per socket' came from a statement in the On-Site Guide stating that there shouldn't be more spurs than accessories. 'Electricians' reading this converted it into something they could memorise.

    Spur off Double Socket.

So, to do what you want, you need to trace back to find the ring final that all this is connected to. Likely a socket with 3 cables. Then put an FCU between that and the rest of the spur.

    Replacing Consumer Unit box

From wales.com: What is Wales, exactly? Wales is a country that forms part of the island of Great Britain. There are three countries that make up this island: Wales, and our neighbours England and Scotland.

    Mains indicator LEDs

Given that that's all the data sheet bothers to specify, we can only assume that. One isn't exactly intended to use it like that. In reality the LED either will breakdown, in which case what I said applies, or it won't, in which case the LED will be even safer. As I implied earlier, I wouldn't...

    Mains indicator LEDs

My take on this is that the diode will limit the reverse current in the LED to say 30uA - depends on the diode and its temperature. The LED will probably go into its zener condition at around 5V. However it is not the voltage breakdown that damages a reversed biased diode, but the resulting...

    Mains indicator LEDs

Well it looks like an LED with three components in series. Brave. I wonder if that fits inside the Crabtree neon space.

    Blanking plate

Yes, agreed, but you just contrived that picture to make a point, and it wasn't what your original description brought to mind. Also, strictly speaking, BS7671 would (rightly or wrongly) seem to allow even that, or at least be suggesting you shouldn't drill there, mostly because you would be...

    Blanking plate

So what ever happened to: Where the location of the accessory, point or switchgear can be determined from the reverse side, a zone formed on one side of a wall of 100 mm thickness or less or partition of 100 mm thickness or less extends to the reverse side...

    Mains indicator LEDs

Mmm... I made it about 10nF. I could have made an error. And I don't think they make X2 caps in such unusual sizes.

    Mains indicator LEDs

...except if the physical size of a suitable X2 rated capacitor causes an issue (they're quite big). Without doing the experiment, I believe that an led will need much less current than people who first met them in the 80s seem to assume. As a matter of interest, the mains led indicators I...

    Mains indicator LEDs

That's certainly cheaper than just the commercial mains led indicators I have seen.
