Need help disabling one light switch of a two-way circuit

Yes, that's the first one I saw with a value in the range you mentioned, and stating that it's X2. (X2 is considered safe for domestic environments, X1 for industrial.) FYI, just about every piece of domestic electronic equipment has a similar X2 capacitor across its mains input. They cost more...

Need help disabling one light switch of a two-way circuit

Well, no. That's why I mentioned it; it would have said (e.g. X2). Sorry, I only just saw the thread. But it's your choice.

MK triple outlet with integral 13A fuse had a melt down

Please point us to specific standardisation evidence for this. I believe it is simply personal opinion.

Need help disabling one light switch of a two-way circuit

Strictly speaking the capacitor should have been rated as an 'X' capacitor as it is connected directly across the mains. This means it is designed to fail safe (I believe either open or short circuit) to avoid overheating if it fails. e.g...

Chasing for data cable - conduit?

I always just squeezed the end of the oval to make it round and pushed it into the round hole.

LED Garden Lights - Control & Dimming

Those were not designed to be used outside. You should probably stop using them.

    High grid voltage advice

I suspect you will need to get readings at your own premises, both with and without the solar power connection. The DNO could easily claim that your excess voltage is self inflicted. If the voltage is still above 253V without the solar then they don't have a case. Similarly, of course, if the...

Radiator leak stopped on its own. How?

As I understand it, water leaks out and starts to evaporate, leaving behind a deposit of, e.g., calcium carbonate and doubtless loads of other things. These stay behind and tend to fill the gap where the water leaks from.

Oil boiler, and RCD protection, not sure what to do if anything?

A little learning? It is pronounced 'an Ar See Dee'. 'Ar' begins with a vowel sound. You checker is working correctly

    US Lamp

Oh boy. There is no way that we can know a correct pronunciation for Latin. The school teachers from every country have there own version, and there are many versions within the UK. Plus the catholic church version. It may be of interest that the name of the character 'Data' in Star Trek - The...

    US Lamp

As a point of fact, the Chancellor Dennic Healey took it upon himself to redefine the billion for all government purposes, during a budget speech in 1975.

Mystery Fault with Electric Underfloor Heating

How long did it take you to find the clamp meter you bought that was suitable for measuring whether earth leakage was the issue in an investigation into why an RCD might be tripping, and how much did you pay for it? I would assume that the one you bought can reliably distinguish between 5ma and...

Landis & Gyr 5235a -How to download data on FRAM

In my recent experience with Octopus, this means that you must explicitly state that this is a complaint, and that you expect to receive a complaint reference number as the result of this call, and have the agent state that they will send one. At least when you have a reference number in...

Landis & Gyr 5235a -How to download data on FRAM

Fraud requires criminal intent. I would suggest that you are simply dealing with gross incompetence. Just like the rest of us. I recently complained 3 or 4 times to EVO about an invalid but important link they sent me. They sent me two emails saying that if my email was about their incorrect...

Wet underfloor heating with electric thermostat

The PRT-E was being used simply as a room (air) temperature thermostat. That was one of its functions. If the user had wanted they could use it with electric underfloor heating so that it could ensure that the floor itself didn't get too hot. Feature 08 – Sensor Selection: On this thermostat...

Landis & Gyr 5235a -How to download data on FRAM

In principle you are right. But in practice, if you release the means to reset the meter to dozens of refurbishment engineers, then you essentially release it to everyone. You only need to release the ability to change less critical functions to allow refurbishment and calibration.

Landis & Gyr 5235a -How to download data on FRAM

I have read the specification for talking to this type of meter. Plus, if the energy company did not keep the password for changing the reading a closely guarded secret, can you imagine the consequence on ebay? The hardware to access the meter can be built for a few quid.
