I have a long set of solar panel lights which stopped recharging although of course it could be the batteries are knackered. Is it possible to check the charging rate of these devices?

Covering hot water pipes exposed on wall.

I had some changes made to our central heating and there are now two pipes running along the side of a door which can be very hot. Is there anything available that is cosmetically effective as well as being capable of offering protecting to anyone who might touch them?

    What mix for Dry lean?

Many thanks for that. I wanted a form of concrete because the paving slabs that I laid before in the back garden didn't last long with laying them on hard core and sharp sand. I've never used Dry lean before so at least knowing what the mix is gives me a bit more confidence. Thanks again.

    What mix for Dry lean?

I am building a footpath to my front door and was advised to lay a base of Dry lean and then lay the slabs I'm using on that with a four spots of sand and cement. The base has been dug out to a depth of six inches for the Dry lean and an additional two inches for the slabs I have. Although I...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

Makita Brushless combi, 2x3ah, charger and case for 170 quid is all very well but I specifically mentioned that I was looking for a mains drill.

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

I received some good advice that I should be using Cobalt drill bits to go through steel which I will now look for but some regrettable advice that the Titan drill which I was interested in is made in China and since I have come across some absolute rubbish from there I no longer buy from them...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

JohnD I am not being sarcastic but this is the most intelligent post I have seen since I was asking questions about computing some time ago and they also made it clear that they required some detail before they could give a considered answer. I will now answer your questions. What size holes...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

You say, "At the end of the day BHL, the choice has to be yours, all we can do is try and guide you by explaining the differences in the types of drill." Interesting as learning about drills is as a non technical person I was looking for advice on what will do what I want a a drill to do which...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

SammyInnit I'm looking for a general drill that will allow me to drill a hole for a raw plug into brickwork, drill a hole through wood or drill a hole through 4mm steel. I'm not particularly interested in a hammer drill because I'm not likely to want to do such work and of course the drill must...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

Firstly many thanks for all of the advice you all have offered but I do have some supplementary questions. PreticeBoyofDerry “You need a core drill then, rather than a standard SDS or rotary percussion one.” I’m a failed Bricklayer so know nothing of such technicalities so would you be so kind...

I need a new mains electric drill with a clutch!

I broke my right thumb a few years ago using a round cutter to cut a hole through hard bricks. The cutter jammed but the drill kept going. The result a badly smashed right thumb. Today I was drilling a hole through a 5mm fence post, the drill bit jammed, the drill kept going, result a badly...

My ECO TEC Plus 624 boiler is leaking.

Firstly I have to say that I'm impressed with all of your knowledge on boilers. This reminds me of a small bore system pressurised system I had twenty years ago. It warmed the house in no time at all but we had nothing but trouble with that. Thanks all.

My ECO TEC Plus 624 boiler is leaking.

I recently had an ECO TEC Plus 624 boiler fitted and the fitter did say that it might just leak if there were any weak spots in the piping as it was a high pressure system. Bearing in mind that the previous boiler had never leaked I thought there should be no problem. However, just as the cold...

    mortar mix for pointing slabs.

Did you brush the mix in dry originally? No, the person who laid them used a wet mix which I suspect was to weak. Are your flags laid on sand and cement or just on unbound sand. If its the later then any pointing will not last as the bedding is slightly flexible and the movement cracks the...

    mortar mix for pointing slabs.

I had my patio Slabbed a year ago and already weeds are growing in between them. I suspect that I need to re-point them and am asking for advice on the method and mortar mix.

Remedy for a leaking asbestos roof.

Firstly many thanks to everyone who offered advice and information. I checked with our Local Authority about taking Asbestos to the disposal point and it has to be double wrapped in Polyene so that out because I'm not risking breaking the sheets up. I got what I thought was a reasonable quote...

Remedy for a leaking asbestos roof.

Turning the roof into a flat felted one will cost a fortune. Is there an inexpensive corrugated fibre sheet that would fit over the asbestos?
