    Close coupled cistern/pan leak

Suggest that you assemble outlet in cistern. Washer inside, washer outside, steel plate and then nut. Tighten up (hand tight is not enough you will need a spanner) and support cistern vertically over the actual bowl of toilet (not in its final position. Fill with a bucket and see if it leaks. If...

Changing a normal pillar tap washer-please help!

I assume the washer is a flat disc with a hole in the middle. Slightly thicker should not be a problem. Try using one with a slightly bigger diameter and buff it down to the correct diameter rather than use a smaller one.

Problem with the diverter on a bath mixer shower tap. It is a 15 or 20 year old gold finished tap set that has a plated cover that can be removed once the tap heads (white plastic), hose connector and diverter pullup knob are removed. This exposes the pull up spindle for the diverter...

    unpleasant smell

There should be a length of tube that fits down into the trap and which can removed for cleaning. It should have a rubber ring on the outside to create an airtight seal with the body of the trap. If the tube is missing you have no seal at all. If the rubber ring is missing the trap will not...

fitting mixer shower but confusd re: backsiphonage

Back syphonage: Theoretically if the shower head is left lying in the bathwater and the cold feed is mains fed then under some situations you can have a drop in pressure in the mains to such a degree that bathwater is syphoned back into the mains. This is also the reason an outside tap must...

    dismantling a shower

Is the electric shower on the partition you want to remove? Is electric shower going to be used in the final shower room or are you disgarding it? First thing you need to do anyway is isolate the power to the electric shower right back at the customer unit/fuse box. How you do this depends on...
