combined feed and vent pipe partly in plastic???

Looking to replace existing feed & vent arrangement by a combined 22mm feed and vent back to boiler. Is plastic ok, after a couple of metres of copper, given that vent is is there to take steam if boiler (oil fired) stat fails, boiler overheats and boils. Some pipe flexibility would greatly ease...

    slipping toilet seat

You can get plastic angle pieces which are attached to the underside of the seat and which extend down into the bowl a short distance. They prevent sidewards movement. I saw these advertised recently in a flyer but can't remember where. Don't know if they can only be attached to wooden seats.

    Primary tank overflow

John ignore "floer". However somethings strange with initial post. In no particular order: You spoke of smaller tank which is Feed and Expansion tank to CH. Much bigger tank is Cold Water Storage Tank. Cold tap in kitchen should be mains fed so running it should not activate float valve...

Improving a mediocre shower - fitted the pump, now what?

Electric showers work on a very simple principal. There is a constant input of heat through the heater and you control the water temperature by altering the flow. Min flow= very hot, large flow= cool. A 7 kW shower will never give you much flow at a reasonably high temp. However 10kW will...

    Header Tank Questions

Masona. My bathroom cold tap is supplied from the CWST rather than the mains. Is this not usually the case where a vented CH system is used so that both feeds to mixer taps are at similar pressures.

How do you know if the worm is leaking

Further to Bacho. The level in the F&E may also rise if the water in the CWSTank is higher than in the F&E tank and you have a faulty coil. Test with system cold as water level fluctuates with water temp and expansion.

    Header Tank Questions

What is important is the relative levels of the water in each tank. They should be arranged so that the water level in cold water storage tank is higher than that in "header" (flow & expansion) tank This ensures that if the indirect coil in the cylinder fails that water will flow from CWST...

    Pumping over

You could run a single combined F&V pipe in 22mm minimum between boiler and pump on the flow side and cap off the existing feed & vent pipes in the attic. If you retain the separate feed in attic this should be teed into return after the 2 port valve

Water disapearing from header tank. (Baxi Bermuda system)

you wrote If there is no separate vent pipe from the CH circuit then you must have a combined feed and vent pipe. This should be at least 22mm and usually has a vent teed off close to tank and going up and over. You need to suss out why the F&E water is hot. It shouldn't be. Try and trace...

    Pumping over

You have a common configuration from the time before control valves. If you insist on a zone valve on the HW circuit then you will have to provide new feed & vent pipes back to boilerhouse as soggy says. Biggish job!! You will also need to move the pump to the flow side of the boiler with...

Your ideas please. Shower tray draining into SaniFlo

Concrete cow said If you are cutting through that is going to take a big deep notch for the waste pipe which is going to get deeper in order to get the required fall over a longish run. This could seriously weaken the joists. Waste pipes should be run to an outside wall parallel to the...

    Bypass Valve Setting

Are you losing pressure due to a leak in the gland of the valve around the spindle where it comes out of the valve. If so you could repack the gland and tighten the gland nut without removing the valve. You could think of replacing it (if it is a gate valve) with an automatic bypass valve...

Water disapearing from header tank. (Baxi Bermuda system)

Feed & Expansion tank should not need continuous topping up by ballcock. If it does then you are losing water from CH system. If no visible leaks from pipework/rads then other possibility is a fault in the coil inside the cylinder letting water from CH pass into hot water supply to taps...
