Most likely it's hydrogen that's being produced due to corrosion in the system. Has the water been dosed with inhibitor ?

I put a floating floor over asphalt in my kitchen. I just laid a layer of plywood on the asphalt without fixing it. (Then covered in thermal underlay and an engineered wood floor.) Asphalt tends to be quite sticky - The plywood hasn't gone anywhere ! :wink:
