What to fill my wall cavity with

I completely agree - And retrofitting cavity wall insulation in the relatively small gap between the two skins gives at best a very small improvement in insulation. Much better for air to be free to circulate between the two skins as was the original design intent of this method of construction.

    Nice Smelling Plant/bush options

Lavender is the way to go - Even better get the people next door to move their bins. . I had a problem with the neighbours on one side leaving their bins out the front of the house all week through sheer chaviness and laziness. Reported them to the council for breach of the...

    jcb mowers

Indeed. And the reason the people importing this foreign, disposable rubbish pay JCB to allow them to use JCB branding ? - The fact that people associate JCB ( the only significant British privately owned manufacturer ) with general sturdiness and reliability... I certainly wouldn't class...

Problems locking/unlocking double/double glazed patio doors

Not enough information I'm afraid.... Are the doors hot (expanded by the hot weather) when you can't lock them ? Do they any easier to lock when the ambient temperature is cool ? What in particular won't "lock" ? Is it just that the key won't turn or you can't turn the handles to the...

    Wonky fence post

For that type of job I'd take a sledgemammer to the concrete on your garden side of the post (use eye protection ) until you can pull out the old post. That leaves a "socket" in the concrete that you can put a new post in. Put in a concrete godfather post on your side (makes for a much more...

    Excavating copper pipes

Personally I never bother removing copper pipes from concrete. ( Loads of pipes in concrete froze and burst during the big freeze up last Christmas ). They should never have had concrete poured around them in the first place and removing them is far too much hard work. . 8) Just abandon...

    Intermittent central heating problem

There's no timer involved - The only timer is on the boiler, and that was set to be continuously on. I've now resolved the issue : The problem was the thermostat as I suspected. Old thermostat replaced with a new Honeywell analogue thermostat ( can't see what the point of using a...

    Intermittent central heating problem

My central heating runs off an almost new Worcester Greenstar 42CD1 Combi Boiler but still uses my house's original Honeywell mechanical thermostat. It must be at least 30 years old by now, albeit its worked fine up to now. Recently the central heating has sometimes been failing to start...

reducing water pressure in worcester bosch combi boiler

Why would lack of servicing cause the pressure to be too high ? . :? Are you suggesting that lack of inhibitor could be causing corrosion and the hydrogen formed is increasing the pressure ?

reducing water pressure in worcester bosch combi boiler

Certainly too high - Is it reading 3.5 Bar with the pump running or not running ? Is the key removed from the filling loop ? - If not you may have pressurisation from the mains water supply via the filling loop.

    Blocked condensate

Indeed - I've heard it described on this forum as being "highly acidic" . It's not highly acidic (something like concentrated nitric acid is highly acidic) , it's very slightly acidic......

Dosing both inhibiter and leak sealer

Agreed, but I think my leak must be one of these pesky "invisible" leaks ! - It must be tiny, just means I have to top up the system 3 times per year instead of once per year or so.... Can't see any problem at the pressure release valve vent... I suspect it's a tiny leak on one compression...

    BAD CENTRAL HEATING INHIBITER

But how do you keep the water ph neutral without additives ? - I agree it shouldn't be overdone, but every time a leaking system is topped up the concentration of inhibitor in the water is diluted. If there is insufficient inhibitor in a system the slightly acidic water will cause galvanic...
