Is it safe to ground the light switch with just one cable?

Looking at the photo, I’m struggling to work out what the two switches do. Is this an exact replacement for what was there before? Is anything connected to the L1 and L2 of the far switch? Does the near switch maybe operate two lights on different curcuits?

Leaving taps dripping, to prevent pipes from freezing?

No. Fresh water pipes are inside the house; drain pipes (often) go outside. Outside will be colder than inside. So it does happen that a dripping tap results in the drain freezing where it exits through the wall. Honestly, I think we’ve passed the point where random YouTube videos can be...

    Diy house rewire

Why not? Here in Scotland, they are now a legal requirement. I guess that will be the case where you are soon enough.

    Best Budget Wall Stud Finder

HD as in "hard disk"? Yes, probably. I have some that are approx 10p coin sized, probably similar alloy, and they are more than sufficient.

    Best Budget Wall Stud Finder

Free - tap the wall and listen to find the more solid bits. Cheap - use a strong magnet to find where the screws or nails are. Both are cheaper and more effective than any stud finder device.

Possibly not a lot. Do feel free to post questions here when you have any doubt at all.

    Cable Tracker with Tone Generator

That's fairly obvious because there is a pause when it wraps around from 8 to 1.

    Cable Tracker with Tone Generator

I once wasted a lot of time when I didn't spot that it was showing 12345678 at one end and 87654321 at the other.

    Diy house rewire

I believe the options come down to "fully legal" and "fully illegal"; there isn't much middle ground. Do you believe that you know what you're doing? Do you for example work in a related field?

    New connection to deep manhole

Getting the fall along the red line would not be a problem. The challenge is that that would require a lot of digging, and getting permission. Getting the fall to connect to one of the existing drains would depend on how deep they are, which is unknown.

    New connection to deep manhole

For the proposed red line, very roughly 5m maybe?

    New connection to deep manhole

I counted ten courses of brick, then the concrete benching. Hmm, that's not much more than a metre; it looked deeper than that.

    New connection to deep manhole

Very rough sketch. House wall in black. Existing deep sewer runs right to left. Existing pipes from house in blue; proposed new pipe in red. Ground is slightly lower to the left. Connecting to an existing pipe would require a sharp left turn (probably tighter than the diagram suggests). I don't...

    New connection to deep manhole

Thanks all, that's very useful. There is a slight slope over the yard and the new location is somewhat lower than the old one, so connecting to existing pipes is difficult because of gradients. I've just googled "backdrop". Are "internal backdrops" often used? That might possibly be a solution...

    Asbestos question

I'm not aware of asbestos having been used on domestic pipes. Old stuff is felt, new is plastic.

    Asbestos question

That appears to be a paper label on an electrical cable, with a plaster wall behind. Which part are you asking about? As for under your kitchen floor - how would we know?
