    Combi Boiler Back Up Project

A lot of homes have this sort of set up in that they have Immersion heaters. In my case my thermal store has two of them. When I get round to buying solar they will be run on that free sun as part of the install when I am not pulling the power for my own use. Still a good idea though, maybe...

BT Infinity - a pain without end?

Lucky you, its been about 10 years and they only just replaced the cable up by us. When it got windy phones/internet went down. New cable has meant we now have a phone that doesn't crackle and more stable internet (cant get infinity as too far from exchange but we get faster broadband which uses...

    Screw placement for recessed blinds

Probably dot n dab round the windows. so maybe not more than a 1CM or so. You can used brown/redplugs or if it is deeper you could use plasterboard fixings. I assume these blinds aren't heavy?

Housing for 600mm wide fridge freezer

The more air circulation around the back the more efficient the fridge freezer will be. I would go with the 400 deep box unless you can give the fridge freezer a good few inches gap around the edges at the sides and top. I have seen lots of fridge freezers built in too tight and struggle to...

Replace doors and frame vs painting

Are you talking DIY or getting a chippy in? If getting a guy in for 5 doors I would say allow day and a half to fit the frames (if you have removed the old ones) and then a day and half to fit the doors. I know guys that can do it quicker but it may be a rough job and thats not what you want.

    Shelving with Plasterboard??

It will work but it runs the risk of cracking/breaking up depending on the weight you put on it. I have created some in my house that I am renovating now I did however use a 20mm insulation board under it for support as plasterboard breaks easily. EDIT added a picture of mine.

PIV Systems / Heat Recovery Units

I had a huge mould issue in bedrooms - its a 1820s stone build house so non insulated walls. Fitted a nuair unit and it helped out with the mould brilliantly. I wouldn't say it cured it but it made the situation a million times better. My resolution has been somewhat two fold, I added an...

    Builders fired

Depending on the cost of the tools, I would just move on. Chances are they wont come back for their stuff anyway and charge it to the next victim.

    Noisy floors in new build

It depends where your joints are and if you can start at an edge. On my ones I was lucky that the room wasn't in a finished state but if I tried to do my hall now then it would have to be cut and then relaid.

    Noisy floors in new build

Are they actual floor boards or the chipboard sheets? As they are saying it was glued I suspect the latter. I had one section that was really squeaky and I had to pull it up and relay it gluing it to the joist and together and a load of screws which seems to have resolved it for me.

    Plasterboard on lining paper

I used a hot water paper stripper and paint scraper plus lots of brute force!. doesnt have to be perfect but as long as most of the paper is gone so the dabs grab the wall not the paper its fine.

Internal solid wall insulation - What's best?

In my stone built part of the house I used roofing battens and put 22-25mm insulation boards between then the same insulation over the top of the battens to give me approx 50mm of insulation the plasterboard on top, this was not the quickest way but it did allow me to pre plan cable runs and...
