    Quicky on changing expansion tank

If you have the basic freeze kit of a jacket and can of freeze spray it would be easy. Freeze spray won’t burst the pipe. It just forms an ice plug. As to pipes freezing and compression fittings pulling off in severe winter - the 2010 winter was so bad could burst anything including soldered...

    Quicky on changing expansion tank

You are not supposed to have any valves between expansion vessel and system. Can you not freeze the pipe? Or if you can close off any auto vents and drop the pressure fully it might be possible to swap, perhaps by still plugging pipe temporary while you struggle to fit new vessel.

Virus lifespan on surfaces and in air explained

No. I just took from it that this virus can potentially survive fairly long periods from test results. Particularly the airborne risk I noted. Really though all I need to know at present. Keeping myself isolated

Still an authority on medical subjects though. Could well be smarter than his medical retired job position suggests. I just liked that he explained the tests in a basic way for viewers.

Virus lifespan on surfaces and in air explained

Well my dear Watson, seems to be a lot of clowns who think otherwise and just my thesis. But feel free to give your opinion on avoidance advice of this virus (for now), old chap!

Virus lifespan on surfaces and in air explained

Think it just is the science way it is tested, - half life period, then half again, etc, repeating until gone. All we need to learn from it is the worst case lifespan. So 72 hours the virus is still in theory infectious at 72 hours on plastic surfaces, but not much beyond that. 3 hours lifespan...

    Off-licences deemed essential

Has to be just to keep the masses from going berserk. I can survive without alcohol, so all a bit strange to me. Sad that people are unable to live without regular doses of what is really something our body function doesn’t need. But easy said I know for someone not addicted at all to it.

Virus lifespan on surfaces and in air explained

Seems it is from a reputable source and I like that the message is being said in a fairly simple way that the ordinary person can understand. Basically more than 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel surfaces lifespan, cardboard also 24 hours and can survive for 3 hours floating about in the...

Virus lifespan on surfaces and in air explained

Watch this entire video. Scary but a great explanation. Take care everyone and isolate. Beware of shops or other buildings and anywhere near people.

Silicone sealant lifting from bath edge

Is the bath plastic? All standard thickness plastic baths will flex and require either glued to wall using silicone or similar and a baton of timber (2”X1”) screwed to walls all around the bottom of bath edges to give firm support. Doesn’t matter if you first fill a plastic bath with water...

    That's done it.

If Boris, or more correctly - the government and advisors, had shut the country down a week or two earlier it would have caused complete panic in much of the public. People have been panicking and bulk buying as it was. Got to remember that government advisors and civil servants are predicting...

Looking to replace water cylinder which type needed?

That makes perfect sense. It would indicate the coil has very little flow through it and means cylinder water is not getting fully heated in one hour, but longer run periods of heating the cylinder will eventually heat it well. The pipes going to coil are blocked or at coil. It could have a tiny...

    I haven't panic bought, have you ?

Avoid going out anywhere. Let us give the NHS a chance to help reduce the numbers of very ill people. This week is when we will catch or spread the virus. This is going to prove very serious.

    Scum bitch at Aldi

Shows how some humans behave when times get tough. Could eventually become lawless if the police can’t cope. You can see why some Americans are arming themselves.

How to access a leaking waste pipe

You could try an endoscope wifi camera to prove if leak is below basin area. Just needs a tiny gap to push it in, or a tiny drill hole of a few mm. Friend of mine bought one on Amazon and it gives fantastic colour video onto his phone wirelessly. Only cost under £30. This is similar type -...

Bosch Diswasher - repair or replace?

I am only a plumbing/heating guy, but check the discharge hose isn’t connected wrong. But moving machines out and in properties can upset delicate parts. If you can diagnose and repair it yourself, then only the cost of the parts to consider if it is worth it. But if paying a pro it probably...

Looking to replace water cylinder which type needed?

As above post - use a magnet on the pipes to coil, particularly on the return pipe (most likely lower pipe) and at the tee piece as that is where magnetite often accumulates - which resembles black coal. Sometimes a gentle few taps with something blunt on the tee piece might improve flow and...

How do I attach this valve to a cabinet?

If the water mains supply is suddenly turned off to your area of homes, or there is a burst mains pipe, the water can and will suck back into the mains supply. This is actually why double check valves are now to be installed on pipes supplying outside taps for example. And they are not...
