    Fabdec Excelsior Hot Water Cylinder?

The air gap (in the internal gap type cylinder) isn’t self sustaining. You have to partially drain the cylinder and open top pressure/temperature relief valve to allow air in and then refill. Other than that I would just want to know the reliability of the unit. Warranty is good, just same as...

Humming noise - pipe work, or the isolation valves?

As there is isolating valves to the taps, - why not turn each tap iso valve off, one at a time and that will prove if a tap has a fault? Some cartridges can cause a buzzing/vibrating noise when they become loose inside.

Reilio 40, motor not purging after lockout.

Replacing the nozzle with identical type is still risky as output and flame pattern can vary and really should have burner set up each time using analyser by a pro. Put it in writing to the property agent/landlord that the oil boiler has not been serviced and is now not working and ask for...

Reilio 40, motor not purging after lockout.

Begs a few questions - Do you get the boiler serviced by a proper oil service person? Did you install the new nozzle yourself and without boiler being analyser set up? Your motor not always starting can be due to partly seized components or/and capacitor. Motor, motor bearings, capacitor, oil...

Electric shower making kettling noise when not in use.

The switch inside the shower is most likely faulty and permanently on. The shower is perhaps cutting off and on with its thermal cut out. Switch isolator off at pull cord and at consumer unit and have somebody replace the entire shower, as it might be unwise to repair

    Soil pipe fittings

Normally ideal if the flow of water goes male into female, but not essential. Solvent weld no difference though. The joint in wall will not leak if done correctly and definitely solvent weld will be permanent seal if glued correctly. The soil pipe at 1 metre length will be okay if just barely...

    Soil pipe fittings

Ah! I assumed you had earlier meant moving the soil pipe outside to another hole position in wall. Although, - why not do that? If you are just boxing pipe in, you can use small 90 degree bend and if necessary cut a little into wall around the existing pipe to allow space for end of bend...

Washing machine drain fills sink, but drains if I move pipe

Just Pumps you actually could be spot on re the wet wipes. So common in use nowadays. I blame the female species. :sneaky:

    A Certain Builder Advert

I knew I heard that somewhere recently, that is why I asked. That was a bit risque as well as risky! :) Have had a few customers saying stupid things to me though, without realising what they said. Difficult not to comment

Washing machine drain fills sink, but drains if I move pipe

Wet Wipes, - or as I call them, Chamois Leathers. :)

Washing machine drain fills sink, but drains if I move pipe

No air getting into waste pipes is your problem most likely. Check with a decent plumber, (as many, but not all) builders know nothing much about plumbing or waste pipes and sewers. Soil pipes need open vent stacks or/and air admittance valves. Waste pipes (basins, sinks, baths, showers) need...

Leaking galvanised steel water tank in loft

Do not touch the tank or attempt repairs!!! The rust inside is actually holding it from leaking. Don’t even bump into the tank. I have moved drained metal tanks and they leak the remaining dregs often when I touch them. Had a customer once noticed rust on side of his cold water tank and poked it...

    A Certain Builder Advert

Where is that advertised? Obviously must have been somebody rather naive that thought of that advert wording.

    Soil pipe fittings

If you are moving your toilet position one metre, and assuming your existing loo connects directly into the soil stack tee (junction), then you will have a large distance to work with. You can use (push fit or solvent) a double socket bend, or use a single socket bend and then use pipe with...

    Should you honour a Quote?

Most likely it is actually contract includes payment/reward and contract still exists whether that payment is done later.

Washing Machine Motors (that fail) Don't Panic!

Good advice and also applies to most brushed motors in other machinery. Mira Event (all in one power showers) are another example of just replacing motor brushes.

    Oil Boiler Lockout

Definitely bring in a experienced oil service engineer. New burner should have been set up engineer. You might have a leak on oil line

    newbie camera

Digital cameras come with different sized sensors that are what captures the image. Generally speaking, bigger sensors can capture more detail, so better image. But not as simple as that, because it also depends on the processor inside the camera on how it alters the image and the quality of the...

    Circulation pump replacement.

I would think even just a 5m pump will be more than good enough. If you do buy a A rated pump, you could set the pump at a fixed power as they have the option of fixed settings as well as variable. It will never need to variable as nothing else on that circuit

    Circulation pump replacement.

You only need a constant flow pump with low head, as no restrictions because it is just open flow into store
