New boiler - dirty ch water - best way forward

You could try chemical cleaners to the instructions, but personally I prefer to drain system and flush each rad thoroughly with garden hose outside. Perhaps the power wash wasn’t done properly, or the system was extremely dirty and power washing wouldn’t clean it fully. Hard to beat just...

    Oil Boiler lock out

Capacitor on burner motor could cause failure for motor to turn sometimes. Or combustion setting on boiler wrong causing failing on cold starts. This would explain boiler starting when warm, but not after 2 hours or more of being off

    Oil Boiler lock out

Better to get the installer back to check if there is a fault. Or contact Grant if still under warranty if no other fault in oil line etc. What were the analyser tests for commissioning? If definitely air in oil pump, you must have a leak in suction side, or feed pipe from oil tank. The...

    Circulation pump replacement.

Don't get me wrong about pump valves, - I still install gate valve types. They give reasonable service and I manage to shut them off fairly well in most times I have to replace a pump. But they are poor and subject to corrosion inside or crud preventing them closing fully. It is only a brass...

    Circulation pump replacement.

That is the Pegler pump valves I mentioned. The quality is in the seal that prevents leaks at the spindle. On that type, as far as I aware of, the valve is much the same as a lever operated valve and uses white coloured seal on the ball which is actually a hard type of ptfe. If you look closely...

    Circulation pump replacement.

Gate valves are fairly poor at shutting water off fully and can leak at packing nut at spindle. The quality full flow ball valve type pump valves are good. Peglers Bulldog pump valves are quality. Non of the slotted screw type pump valves are any good due to the seal on the screw which leaks badly

EU says UK-EU FTA must include agreement on fishing

Just another example of EU intransigence and something we need to take them on. A good reason that we decided to leave the enemy, sorry, EU.

    Circulation pump replacement.

I can’t say for sure, but there are some very cheap circulating pumps which are Grundfos clones and I suspect cheap Chinese? made. Come with different brand names. They tend to fail or work only partially. That last pump looks like one of those cheap type.

CH trips electric but hot water is ok - ????

Just checked your profile. Hadn’t realised you are a plumber and gas engineer. :) You would have a good knowledge of electrics though. I am only oil install/servicing or solid fuel work, plus normal plumbing work. The old sealed motors like SMC that moved the impeller by magnetic action were...

CH trips electric but hot water is ok - ????

I noticed the OP said the valve head was replaced, so thought maybe pump. Strange if it wasn’t checked. I am not an electrician, but when I get call outs to oil boilers blowing fuses or tripping, the circulating pump is first suspect and then burner motor. I see a lot of pumps that the seals...

CH trips electric but hot water is ok - ????

Did the boiler engineer not disconnect power going to the pump? They can be cause of electric tripping and often will do so after short while running. Anything with a motor in it is a suspect and especially a pump as it also obviously has water.

The genius that enabled Brexit to happen.

Also don’t forget Jeremy Corbyn who made such a mess of opposition in Parliament that helped the Tories and support for Leave. Also Jo Swinson for helping Brexit by ignoring and showing no consideration for those who supported leaving the EU. And let us not forget any of the clowns of the EU...

    Flush identification please help!!

Absolutely Madrab, we have to just accept the new toilet flush valves. Just seems such a complication and a waste of plastic. Just replaced a flush valve this afternoon with same brand for easy swap. That’s another piece of plastic for into plastic recycling. :( Still got my original siphon on...

    Which jointing compound

Seals, if good quality should seal fully on good surfaces like stainless steel sinks, if tightened properly. But just some clear silicone will do perfectly on each side of washers (or Plumbers Gold or CT1 or Tec7 if you wanted extremely strong sealant)

    Flush identification please help!!

Siphons are superior to flush valves as will not ever waste water due to them being higher than water level. (Only exception is a very rare occasion that some had cracked). Old invention was and still is the best. 2 part siphons best type because easy fix. All flush valves rely on a seal...
