    Barrier pipe for central heating

You could do the hidden pipework in 15mm for each radiator if you wished. Best it comes off 22mm pipes usually for large rads, or if doing 2 or 3 small rads from 15mm. You need to support and clip the pipes. Use correct insert supports to suit brand of barrier pipe. Personally I always use...

    SMC Comet 2 recirculation pump

I would have thought it being a hot water recirculating pump it just needs power, often from a timer to avoid wasting electricity and also heat loss on pipe loop at periods while no hot water being used. The purpose of that pump, if you don’t already know, is to have hot water in a loop so that...

    New Boiler Advice.

To have a sealed heating system the open vents parts of it would be removed, - so the small tank in loft and the vent and feed pipes sealed off with a system or combi boiler. The large tank in loft still would still have to remain if you keep your vented hot cylinder. Note that you can still...

    New Boiler Advice.

Okay. If the heating system is sound and can take the extra pressure, it will be far superior to have a sealed heating system. No air absorbing or air in rads problems and less corrosion. Also easier to work on

Correct immersion heater size for 1050x450 cylinder

The tanks are designed that the immersion element shouldn’t fowl the coil in cylinder. Some have the element boss on an angle. 36” element might do your cylinder. An external Willis immersion heater is ideal for heating water near instantly and to as little or as much quantity as you want...

    New Boiler Advice.

If you do replace your boiler you will need a magnetic filter installed also at boiler. Makes a good point for dosing chemicals and protects the boiler from magnetite and other dirt particles. Generally the norm now to be installed and boilers often have better warranty. From what I hear, Vokera...

    Balanced Flue v Combi boiler

Thanks for pointing out my error. I luckily could still edit it, so sorted it now. :)

    Balanced Flue v Combi boiler

Probably coil in old cylinder is far too small and heat recovery is therefore slower than modern cylinders. You should have modern copper cylinders reheated in about half an hour if boiler is solely heating it

    Balanced Flue v Combi boiler

Depends on the numbers of people living at your home and if the mains supply is up to it. Combi might be great for you and would mean you also have the advantage of both hot and cold mains powered outlets. Your hot cylinder at 30” high is very small and would empty after two decent showers. If...

Advice on plumbing a new house

Combi boilers have limited flow rates, so fine for single bathroom homes or one or two people occupancy most likely. So depends on your requirements, which you haven’t said. Unvented cylinders can give as good a flow rates as the mains and pipework allows, - so substantial, especially for...

Noisy Wilo pump - replacement needed?

You can still get cheaper pumps that are B rated. But they look like copies of Grundfos pumps and come in different brand names, so I suspect they are Chinese. Risky to use them as I know some that were noisy or failed to operate fully.

Noisy Wilo pump - replacement needed?

I noticed that and thought it strange. That is clearly a typo. It probably is supposed to be 30 months warranty.

Waste water from shower and basin

If your sewer is an old single underground drain water and sewer, then that is absolutely fine to continue to have it that way. But any alterations to your sewer you would need to go through your local building control. My house is 1950 era and sewers are also combined with drainage.

Attaching Radiator to Timber Frame Wall

Stud detectors can work well, but you could use metal detector or strong magnet to find screw centres. Or just use sharp nail or drill with fine drill bit to find timber. Any holes easily filled later.

Noisy Wilo pump - replacement needed?

Check your upper floor level isn’t running out of water perhaps due to the feed and expansion tank being out of water or the feed pipe blocked somewhere. The pump in your link is a decent pump and should be good. I have used them. You will actually see if you compare it to Wilo and some other...

Attaching Radiator to Timber Frame Wall

The first vertical stud (about 400mm to the right of the window would give good fixing point there on top and bottom left side brackets. The right side you could use heavy duty cavity fixings. Not as good as having timber on both sides to fix to, but still strong.

Rayburn to MegaFlo System - Limited Hot Water

You really shouldn’t be working at anything to do with your Megaflo, except doing the air gap. The thermostats for immersion and for operating motorised valve (heat to coil from Rayburn) are part of the critical safety components of the unit. Only a unvented G3 qualified person is supposed to...

Was I sent the wrong part and isolating the water?

Some parts you do not buy from Mira as they expect you to purchase a more expensive larger part containing the smaller part you need. Remember Mira do not actually manufacture a lot of these parts and they are often universal parts used on some other models or different brands. Often Redring...

Was I sent the wrong part and isolating the water?

That black switch is called a latch switch. It possibly just prises out of the white part. I would be surprised if it isn’t available to buy as an individual part. I know Redring supplied exact switch as Mira used and look same as in photo to me. Just 2 push on cables. Water spray to the outer...
