Wiring a 48 Hour Time Clock

    Not an expert, but I wouldn't run a 16A load through a 13A fuse.

Wiring a 48 Hour Time Clock

Is that a reasonable answer? :)

Tongue & groove flooring - sanity check

No, I'm going in there later. As it's a toss-up in there whether you get someone intelligent or gormless, I wanted to check here before I marched in :-)

Tongue & groove flooring - sanity check

Already thought of that. They're only finished on one side, so you can't simply turn them over. If you can't see anything wrong with it, try to imagine how you'd fit those two boards in a row. You'll end up with either two tongues together, two grooves together, or a long edge which is half...

Tongue & groove flooring - sanity check

They're 110cm long - meant to be laid in simple strips.

Tongue & groove flooring - sanity check

We've bought a load of tongue & groove wooden flooring from Homebase. Having got it all out of the packets to mix it up, we've discovered that some of the tongues appear to be backwards. To illustrate (the dark bit is the tongue)- Normal: Backwards: Obviously, these two bits of...

Any reason you can't do that?

    Sink fixing clips

Thanks Eddie, we'll give it a go.

    Sink fixing clips

Not quite, those are for mounting an undermount sink. I'll see if I can find a picture of what we need - they're effectively a metal clip which attaches to the underside of the sink, with a screw through the clip with clamps the sink to the worktop.

    Channelling

For small amounts of channeling, I've found a cheap SDS drill from Screwfix with a channelling attachment works well. It does make a mess of the surrounding plaster unless you score the edge first though. If you're going to be doing the lot, it could be worth hiring a proper chaser.

    Sink fixing clips

We're fitting a 2nd hand sink into a new worktop. Unfortunately, we've lost all but one of the fixing clips somewhere along the way. We've gone round all the local builders merchants, plumbing merchants, DIY sheds & wheelie bins, and can't find anyone who can get them. Does anyone have any...

    Low hot water pressure

It's a flat, kitchen's on the same floor. It's a new tap, so I'll check what pressure it's designed for. Thanks.

    Low hot water pressure

My friend's flat has a hot water cylinder at floor level in an airing cupboard next to the bathroom. The water is heated by an immersion heater. Hot water pressure is adequate in the bathroom, but by the time the water reaches the kitchen the pressure is too low to be useful. What could be...

    cat 5 cable

That's certainly the principle of ethernet transmission, which cat5 was designed for. It's not a necessity for other types of signal, but is does allow interference to be cancelled out using a simple algorithm.

    cat 5 cable

Interestingly, cat5 seems to be getting used as a general-purpose cable. For some reason, my basic, 2-wire thermostat is connected to the boiler using cat5. All the solid wires to one terminal, all the white-striped wires to the other :D

buying chalet for additonal living space..

I can't comment on the cost, but have done some work with Swedish & Finnish companies wanted to import into the UK. A lot of them provide pre-fabbed housing kits. Not sure about the price, and haven't got access to a list of possible suppliers atm, but i'd certainly recommend looking at them.

    cat 5 cable

Hmm... cat5 is a completely different type of cable to co-ax. I don't think it could be used as a direct replacement - co-ax prevents interference with the outer grounded shield, whereas cat5 requires the inverse of the signal to be carried in the second wire in the pair.

    laminate flooring into alcove, how?

May be too late, but it will make your job easier if you start with the longest straightest wall. Getting the first row straight is the most important thing; without that, the while thing will be wonky.

    Question about engineered wood flooring.

Make sure you see a laid sample, and consider the wear. I ended up talking myself into getting solid maple for £40 per sq m. Now it's down, I absolutely love the way it looks, and think it was well worth the extra cash.

    The benefits of thinking ahead

Yeah, them's the fellas. You're right, a full plan would have helped. Not sure we'd have spotted this, as the entry would just have been "change sockets", but I'll be checking the depth of things in the future!
