What have you been doing today?

About 10 years ago I swapped a VR6 engine for an R32 engine in my Mk2 Golf. I took the shell back to bare metal, got brand new seats, brand new trim. 10years later... I would never get rid of it but can’t be bothered to finish it :LOL:(y) Probably a retirement project now. I’m a...

Have you got a bit of a gap between the wall and next fence/wall or whatever? And has your ‘return’ key broken (y)

    How much Gravel?

I just imagined cutting a bulk bag into 9 like a # and thought that would be close. Although when I read the post I thought the trench was 35cm wide

What have you been doing today?

To either replace my van (if a job offer comes off) or to replace our bmw if I can talk Amanda round to it

What have you been doing today?

This one wasn’t actually for sale. It’s owned by a guy I met on a Facebook page and it’s the exact spec I’m after (Red, 3door, manual) so I asked if I could have a good look around it and ask him a few questions. I want to find one the same for under £20,000.

    Shallow depth joists?

Thanks, and a totally unrelated question, do those hollow blocks used to make internal walls ‘back in’t day’ have any structural qualities? Daughters looking to add storage space in the loft but the centre wall is made of them with a 4x3 mortared on the top.

What have you been doing today?

I feel like it, I only dropped a bit of lath and plaster ceiling

What can I use to fill this hole?

Ouch. I don’t think you should bury speedfit fittings but if that were mine, I’d wrap Denso around the pipe and fitting, cover with sand and then concrete on top.

    Shallow depth joists?

Tony, would the maximum span size alter if the joists were for a loft floor? For example if the span was 4.0mtrs but you could never actually walk on 1.5mtrs of it due to a pitched roof?

    Lowering ceiling by 100mm?

Yes, I said burn the lats and bag the plaster. I’ve treated her to a decent dust mask and some overalls

Which order do you do which jobs when refurbishing?

You want to do all your messy ripping out and structural alterations first, then build it back in layers. So the wires are under the plasterboards so need to go in first, but the actual sockets and switched are ontop of the plaster so need to go in last.

    Lowering ceiling by 100mm?

I told her if she pulls the old ceiling down I’d put the new one up. For what it will cost it seems a no brainer to me.

    Lowering ceiling by 100mm?

How did you connect the new joists to the house at the window side of the room? When I did it at my house I went from load bearing wall in the middle to an RSJ just in from the windows. At our daughters I could go onto the wall plate direct and that would lower the ceilings by 16cm to 243cm.

Issue around soil stack / moist soil?

I would clean everything up best you can then watch it while you use all the bathroom services.

    Lowering ceiling by 100mm?

I’ve got it in my head to rip it all out now. The wall between the 2 bedrooms is made of those hollow blocks and is built up off the floorboards an inch away from a huge joist. If I built a structural stud wall off that joist to the same height as the wall plate, I could span 8x2 between the...
