Stupid Question about central heating pump

***UPDATE*** Thanks to all those who gave me advice on this one. Finally got the heating engineer round yesterday. In short, the wall thermostat was faulty (I was surprised at this as the unit was brand new in November 2012) meaning that the boiler wasn't getting the call for heat when the...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks for the advice and I wholeheartedly agree with you. Already priced up costings and can see that there is not a gulf between the cost of a new head and the cost of a whole valve assembly. However, I am aware that the engineer's pricings will not be the same as mine! Will certainly be...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks again DD. Boiler is a back boiler so cannot get anywhere near the flow and return pipes to/from actual boiler unit (if that's what you mean) I understand what you mean about removal of the cylinder stat and that, if I don't, the boiler will switch off once the cylinder water has reached...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks for the reply Daveydub. Have tried something similar using the FAQs posted on here (cylinder stat to 70, boiler stat to 1 , CH valve manually open and Hot Water [only] to ON) The rads do start to heat up but the pump, valve head and surrounding pipework got VERY hot (too hot to touch) so...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Did a bit more 'digging' today. Took the cover off the 'box' on top of the CH valve. Blew the dust bunnies out of it and then watched whilst I switched the CH to ON. It appeared that the gears turned a bit then turned back a bit. The pump and CH failed to come on. Switched off then did the same...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Dave - it's an old Honeywell valve head (no bump) Tony- pump not buzzing. As for expecting the water to stop then that's down to stuff I have read on the web but mostly (if not entirely) my own stupidity (hence the topic title) Having considered what has been said on here, I have re-visited...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like (as I suspected) I need the engineer. Oh well, over Xmas the wife can put an extra jumper on. Was hoping it could have been an easy to free pump but I should have known it wouldn't be that simple. Thanks to you both.

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks 45yagm.... had considered that it could be the valve but that's an engineer job. Any way of checking that (e.g. manual opening)

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Shouldn't be that badly worn IMHO - the pump (Wilo 25/4 - 130) was only replaced in late November 2012. Anyhoo, this is my one-off attempt at a possible fix before calling the engineer. Not sure it's the pump but see what you think (you did ask..) Setup is normal back boiler system with...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Thanks for the swift reply JohnD. Reason I asked is that I had a bowl and cloth but the water dribbling out didn't appear to lessen. I estimate about 3/4 of a pint dribbled out so I re-tightened the screw and decided to post on here before doing anything further. TBH, I expected a small bowl's...

Stupid Question about central heating pump

Hello all and festive greetings.. I think my central heating pump may be seized. Having searched on here for advice on previous threads, I am aware that the pump could possibly be freed by turning the impeller with a screwdriver. My stupid question is whether the pump needs to be isolated using...

Would you like to be recorded whilst working?

Covert recordings may be used in criminal court dependant on the circumstances of the case. All evidence (including video, audio, telephone intercepts etc.) can be admissible if the court rules as such and provided it meets certain criteria. Video recordings such as those you mention are made...

    Basic garden hose connector problem

I actually replaced both the connector AND the 'nipple' with brass ones but that's just me (I was sick fed up of the issues by then) Hope all goes well. B

    Basic garden hose connector problem

Most of the connectors are standard for 12.5mm hose so those all look okay. They will fit the 'nipple' fittings on both the tap connector (like the yellow one in the kit) and the grey one on the outside of the cart. However, please note what my one did with the cart fitting. Not familiar with...

    Basic garden hose connector problem

Is it a HOZELOCK reel? If so, is there a part/model number? FYI, the outer connection appears to be the same as mine but the inner connection is totally different. You will need a set of connectors but please read my thread [link posted below] before considering what to buy. Normally, the hose...

    Hozelock Connector Blowing Off

Fitted the replacement from Hozelock. Blew off. Have e-mailed Hozelock with appropriate comments (!!) Have now ordered a set of brass connectors in the hope that they resolve the issue. Looking at the advert for the brass ones, seems I am not the only one to have the plastic fittings blow off.

    Police won't bother with burglaries

Sorry to hear your mother got a bad service but there are good and bad in every job. AFAIK, The police don't send anyone from Victim Support. They tell Victim Support of the crime and it is then down to them to follow it up. Police have no control over if or when they attend. Not sure what you...

    Police won't bother with burglaries

Where does it say burglary has been de-criminalised? Whilst she is talking through her @RSE, she is suggesting that a police officer won't necessarily attend following a burglary. That doesn't mean the matter is not being recorded and that, where appropriate, a scene examiner will still attend...
