    Panic - please help

i recently had to check for a leak in my central heating system by marking the water level in the f & e tank with some tape and then holding ball cock up to see if water dropped. To cut a long story short, recently had to remove two radiators and then re fit them, during the refill the piece of...

    Possible leak in heating system

Thanks that's what our initial thoughts were especially as as soon as we dropped the ball cock in the morning it filled up only slightly and then stopped completely. What a relief, we have enough damage to contend with from the first leak without having to deal with another (I just went into...

    Possible leak in heating system

Thanks Mazperks, I only bled radiators after I had untied the ballcock and the tank had refilled for a minute with it's initial purge after that tank did not fill at all for the 10 minutes I stood there. Why would the water level have dropped overnight slightly?

    Possible leak in heating system

So the update on my heating system problem is the trace and access company came round on Friday and found a leak where a radiator had been moved and the solder on the cap had failed. Unfortunately, the leak travelled quite a way along the pipes and has done quite a lot of damage. Last night...

    Possible leak in heating system

My insurance company have confirmed they will cover it - sending someone round to take a look tomorrow. The wording on mine is slightly different though in that it doesn't ask for there to evidence of damage to the building. As it happens we think we know where the damage is but are not sure...

    Possible leak in heating system

Steve, I think you are right going to have to get the big guns in as whole of downstairs is concrete with either suspended wood floor or tile. Yep my insurance policy has trace and access cover £250 excess mind but am pretty sure it's gonna cost a whole load more than that to get a man out to...

    Possible leak in heating system

we recently had some work done and have noticed the paint peeling around the radiator that was replaced. It's on an outside wall next to a bay window so there is some thought that it is coming from outside. The radiator is wall hanging and I cannot see any signs of damp around the skirting under...

    Salamander pump problem

Hi John, Not sure if you are still on this site but thought I would give you something to laugh about. Guess what, our new grant boiler has started to lock out intermittently after two years of running smoothly. It can only happen to me.

    Low water flow to shower

After a bit of advice. We have had a salamander RSP100 pump supplying water to two showers for the past 7 years. In January we had to have the pump replaced with like for like as it was leaking. Over the last moth or so the pump has not always been kicking in when we turn the shower furthest...

    Problem with hot water timer

Woke up this morning to find no hot water. Not the boiler this time (thank god) as Central heating working fine. Turns out the timer didn't automatically come on (no light) but pressing boost got the light back up. Strangely the central heating (light too) came on automatically as usual...

    Salamander pump problem

Ah thank you John. Alas with all the things we have had to replace latekt, a holiday is out if the question. Just wanted to be sure new boiler did not cause shower pump failure before I order a new one. New shower pump tomorrow followed by new kitchen tap - oh joy

    Salamander pump problem

John, Alas boiler still kept locking out so after much discussion we decided to bite the bullet and get a new boiler grant vortex 16/21 external wall hanging. That's what was fitted Friday so I pray I have finally seen the end of the intermittent lockouts. Oil line has been checked and...

    Salamander pump problem

We had some work done on Friday which required the central heating to be drained down. The next morning our salamander rsp100 shower pump tripped the circuit so I replaced the fuse and no pw it is just humming instead of pumping. It sounds like the motor is struggling to kick in. My...

Oil boiler on lockout after new motor fitted

I know tell me about it - there must be something wrong but just can't pinpoint it. What is causing oil to drain back? It's such a mystery. I will be speaking to engineer tomorrow. The oil line pressure was checked on Wednesday and nothing was found then. I am still wondering whether the...

Oil boiler on lockout after new motor fitted

How do we stop the drain back though? I thought the tiger loop removed the air does it not? Will ask them to check the oil pressure on line again. Just so frustrating.

Oil boiler on lockout after new motor fitted

Well surprise surprise, locked out this morning. Reset worked fine as usual. Have had enough now - want a new boiler (current engineer is Thermacom one - rang GAH and checked) so he knows his stuff. Not a happy bunny

Oil boiler on lockout after new motor fitted

Ok so engineer just been and lo and behold when he pressed reset the damn thing fired up fine. (I had left it on lockout from this morning). He started and stopped it several times (at least 10) and couldn't get it to lockout - typical. He checked the motor wasn't sticking, he checked the...

Oil boiler on lockout after new motor fitted

John, I have seriously lost the will to live with this boiler. Have been tempted to take a sledge hammer to it  It was my husband who reset it this morning so I am not sure about the motor spinning. He just said it made a humming noise and didn't fire up but it may be that it just...
