    Cooling the home, methods?

Yes indeed, at 1800 it was 26°C in my office yesterday and 37°C in the loft. I wasn't expecting conduction, it was more convection I had in mind. But I think you pointing out that the gradient is the "wrong direction" to cool down the habitable space means that opening the loft hatch won't work.

    Cooling the home, methods?

How about opening the loft hatch? Heat rises, so in theory the warmest air from the habitable space should go up into the roof void.

    Sealing oak upstand

I'm in two minds about this one. If you seal it 100% effectively, water won't get in and hang around. If you seal it 99% effectively, water will get in but take ages to dry out, causing rot. I would make sure both surfaces are well treated with oil and then leave it unsealed.

    Post bases

40-50kg is one hell of a solar panel, how big is it?

    Weed infested flower bed

There are plenty of plants that will come back every year, produce flowers and spread, thus out-competing the weeds. A few off the top of my head: - geranium - toadflax - foxglove - strawberry ["wild"/alpine type] - aquilegia All of the above are not "fancy" and won't require too much caring for.

Replacement cooker hood filter reducing airflow

They were invented by a Dutchman for cooking chips which are called 'frituur' [something like that] and he called it a 'fritair', which is presumably a neat pun in Dutch. For marketing purposes this was changed to 'air fryer'. Try making some chips in an air fryer without oil and tell me how...

    Weeds coming through membrane

Even if you stop them coming through the membrane, they will also grow in the gravel. Set expectations to the customer here, it's going to require maintenance no matter how you lay it.

    Line post

Who is going to be looking at this? Can you "hide" the angle iron with the post? ie, it will look like a wooden post from one side but will actually have the angle iron screwed to it.

    Weed Matting

It's unlikely that shingle would be any less likely to attract weeds than the slabs you've taken up.

Trying to name and locate these catches.

I would be surprised if they are "door handle"-sized. The screw holes would be massive if the handles were the size of doorhandles.

Can I add an EV charger for a PHEV to this CU

I didn't say that it was either fair or not fair, I am just highlighting that trying to come up with a way to replicate the old ways in a new system doesn't necessarily make any sense. Old system = physical objects with a limited number of uses being moved around, to some points of delivery...

Can I add an EV charger for a PHEV to this CU

Why? "Because that's how we used to do it" isn't sufficient justification.

    Smart meters - good choice?

I've got one, pretty much the same story as Harry Broomfield. No TOU tariffs without one.

Can I add an EV charger for a PHEV to this CU

What you're saying makes a certain amount of sense, electrons are pretty fungible after all. But doubt it'll ever happen.

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

Perhaps I've misunderstood something here, but I am assuming that the kitchen is where the freezer + fridge are, and that the fridge and freezer each have a BS 13A plug. So why not just use a standard double socket in the kitchen? Just because it's commando at one end doesn't mean it needs to be...

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

You can get male commando sockets. No widow making required.

They didn't try very hard, Lexus are still selling cars today with type 2 + Chademo, but no CCS!

Can I add an EV charger for a PHEV to this CU

FWIW there are very few EVs for which this not the case.
