    Polypipe UFH

Hi. Strange one here. Polypipe UFH system using the polypipe overlay system, then covered by 6mm ply. 10mm carpet underlay and 10mm carpet. Obviously not much heat. I know that carpet needs to be a low tog value (I doubt this is) but the ply had me stumped with wood being an insulator. Its like...

    Column radiator question

Columnrads.co.UK for the ones I have, I looked at Victoria plumb etc for some normal rads but the info could be wrong. Sounds like it might be definitely worth trying a different rad at that rating. ceiling is 2400 approx. actually not that fussed for efficiency, I just want the room to get...

    Column radiator question

I think when I originally looked at them and have since checked, the BTU of the column ones I have are 3 times higher than the equivalent 'central heating rads' dimensions are 1500x600 and are rated at 6000+btu at 50 degrees. The normal white central heating ones are around 2000btu at the same...

    Column radiator question

Yeh I know the 15 mm could be an issue but there’s on 4 rads (column types) + two towel rads (which get spanking hot) I understand the flow being connected on the correct side where the baffle is to force the hot water up the rad. boiler is variable which is tweaked down to 65 degrees on the...

    Column radiator question

Hello, I have a few modern column rads in my house and find they take ages to warm up and don’t get particularly hot. my house is 200 years old and is a cold house anyway, the CH pipe work is mostly 15mm which I know won’t help. I had a new 40kw ideal boiler installed last year which did...

    paint bubbling off wall

I’ve taken a couple more pics. Can’t see any ingress. The wall that flakes is the party wall, not external.

    paint bubbling off wall

Interesting. So the damp is probably rising up through the cellar walls? The wall feels colder to the touch where it peels to where it doesn't. Nothing ever grows on the wall and I dont get any telltale mould you'd expect from damp. I can stand under that step and look up. The stone is very...

    paint bubbling off wall

Hello, Im not sure if this is the right forum but ive had and issue for years at the bottom of my steps where the paint 'bubbles' (not sure if thats the right term) off the wall. This happens either side of the first two steps neither walls are external. Though the right side is a party wall...

new plaster / mist or not or what?

Brill, thanks for the tip. Mist, figuratively speaking is just a term, not that generally its sprayed on in a fine mist and it can should be rolled on? I found that rolling it runs down the walls and makes a right mess. Its probably just my amateur technique?

new plaster / mist or not or what?

Yeh I know its been asked a million times but im confused. I've a fair old amount of new plaster to paint. Ive spoken to a few decorators and I'm getting a lot of mixed messages. Some say mist, some say just use Johnstones trade matt emulsion paint as a base, some say just paint it. Some say...

Velux windows stuck in open vent position

Ive managed to feel my hand round the back and release the chain. The window then opens. the two latches dont feel seized but the middle lever that pushed the latches (bit attached to the vent bar won't move). Ive pushed the latches down and out which then allows the bar to move up and close...

Velux windows stuck in open vent position

I have 3 velux windows in my kitchen cieling and they have been stuck in vent position for ages. They are the solar remote controlled ones. About 8 years old. The remote no longer works on one of them and the others make a noise then stop. Ive tried to close the vent manually one one and...

    1st floor hallway regs help

In the end I decided to extend the hall to approx 1m wide. I did this by sitting a joist in the web of the steel beam and bolting through, I then ran another joist parallel and inserted noggins with joist hangers. I then extended the floorboard and boxed round the underneath with plasterboard.

    Extending soil pipe internally

Just to close this off, I took the old pipe out and fitted a new one long enough so I didn't have to have a joint behind the wall.

    Extending soil pipe internally

Do I need a solder coupler to connect that to the soil pipe? looking at the suggested mcalpine I assume the solid end connects to the soil pipe and the flexi end to something else ? *edit* sorry, just realised the mcalpine replaces my existing flexible connector but that would still leave the...

    Extending soil pipe internally

There is a stud wall that is plasterboard and tiled. ive pulled it all off to reveal this. the flexible connector pushes into the black soil pipe. While its not leaking I just thought it might be better with a solid pipe through the stud frame rather than the none permanent flexible one?

    Extending soil pipe internally

Hello, Im just re doing a bathroom and want to properly 'fix' the pan connector to the soil pipe. At the moment it uses a flexible pan connector from the toilet that's pushed into the soil pipe. However its been done in a way that means this connector is tiled over. The soil pipe finishes...

    1st floor hallway regs help

Thanks for the help guys. I can’t answer as to why the stairs are so wide. It’s just what the builder did. Along with not taking into account the hall width when doing the stud frame. I’ll have to live with it as it is.
